1.Which movie did you choose to watch for this assignment? Why?

I watched this movie The Lorax for case study relationship marketing. It was produced by
Universal Studios in 2012. I chose to watch this movie because I feel like it tells a great story
and teaches a lesson in a very fun way. I do think that it relates back in today's world because
there are people and places that cut down trees and do not replace them and then there is a
problem with that area that drives that animals out of their habitat, or worse they could die.
2.Describe the central ethical conflict(s) in the plot.
The film is framed as an attack on capitalism and corporate greed, pitting the blame for
environmental ruin upon the market. The Once-lers activities in the light of Social Darwinism,
with survival of the fittest and maximizing profits as his highest goal. However, The Lorax fails
to accurately represent issues of the market. Certainly, the aim of business is to maximize
profits, but not to the extent of driving yourself out of business.
The Once-ler had a profitable business with his Thneeds. Theres no indication that he had any
competition, thereby giving him a monopoly. He did not have an incentive to harvest all of the
Truffula trees because there were no external pressures from competitors. Therefore the
tragedy of the commons argument does not explain the whole story. If it had been merely a
question of competition, the Once-ler could have bought the land, closing it off to potential
competitors and placing himself in the position to harvest Truffula leaves responsibly
3.Who was impacted by these characters decisions and actions? How?
The Once-ler was greedy and had impacted by himself. In the film, the Once-lers major fault is
that he was not a principled entrepreneur, which is not to be equated with the activities of the
market, a series of profit and loss signals. He broke his promise to the Lorax and cut down the
trees because of his insecurities stemming from dysfunctional relationships with his family. The
most troubling of those is perhaps with his mother, who says she always knew he would be a

disappointment. Instead of being an assertive business owner, he allowed his greedy relatives
or the workers to start calling the shots.
Dr. Seuss, who incessantly tried to save the Truffula trees from destruction by the greed-driven
villain, the Once-ler. Set in an idyllic landscape, the story of the Lorax begins in a place with
clean air, healthy trees and a sustainable environment, but soon turns into a lonely place
darkened by smog, pollution and the lifeless haze of abandonment.
4. What did the characters lose by making unethical choices? What did they gain by
making ethical ?
The Once-ler, breaks his promise to the Lorax and makes the decision to cut down the trees in
order to produce his new line of Thneeds (weird sweater/scarf things); however, in doing so, he
robs the animals of their homes and he severely damages the environment. If he ethically so he
can save the environment and his family. He also can save animals and home.
5.Why do you think integrity and fairness are important?
In a fair and honest manner, represent the industry to the public at large with the view of
establishing and maintaining goodwill between the industry and the public and among industry
parties. It also to maintain the respect of the public.

6. How do the characters actions relate to your own behaviour?

We must speak for the trees (and all other living things) I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees,
for the trees have no tongues. This character tell about, there is no place in the world where it is
considered good to cut off a persons nose, or skin, or limbs. Yet at this very minute, rhinos are
being killed for their horns, seals for their skins, and sharks for their fins. They cannot stand up
for themselves. If we dont do it, who will? This character make me want to protect environment.
I can save environment like not making any pollution and be harsh to environment.

7. How can you relate the film back to your own incident?
I can relate this film with my experience like how i take care this environment. What i do is make
sure think about what can happen if i doing unethically to environment. We are bad person if
just care about money without thinking about how to save our environment.

8. What lessons have you learned from watching and thinking about this movie from a
critical perspective? Has this critical reflection inspired you to make changes in your
own life?
The moral is that if we ever use resources without making an effort to protect it then it will be
destroyed forever. If we dont look after our planet, we will have nothing left. Treat resources
with respect, protect it and it will still be here in the future. Act as if Life Depended on Clean Air
and Water, Change my habits to limit my dependence on paper, plastic or other unnecessary
petroleum products that turn into toxic waste and pollute clean air and water. Beyond bringing
my own bag to the grocery store, make it a priority to avoid buying triple packaged food
products, noxious detergents, and stuff that has to be shipped, flown or trucked in from afar. Pay
attention, read labels and educate myself before buy, life depended on it.
