This article was written about research that was conducted concerning
information technology jobs within healthcare settings. Healthcare organizations were
interested in whether job satisfaction was higher among permanent healthcare IT
employees or from healthcare IT non-employees. The difference between the two is that
healthcare IT employees only work on IT for that specific organization. The nonemployees are private consultants that work as information technology experts for a
variety of companies. The writers researched job satisfaction among IT employees by
analyzing previous surveys.
As information technology jobs are increasingly important, companies want to do
everything they can to retain their employees. If job satisfaction is higher, retention of
employees is likely to be higher as well. Job satisfaction usually leads to better job
performance and the work completed is of higher quality. The results showed that the
non-employee consultants were generally more satisfied than the permanent IT
employees. Being a consultant offered more flexibility and individualism, which
promoted higher satisfaction in their jobs. The articled concluded that if IT healthcare
professionals were more satisfied, then they would be more productive and overall
improve levels of satisfaction for patients.

This article listed the 50 best places to work according to Advertising Age in
2014. However before just listing the places, they gave their rationale for why these
places were the best to work at. They found that the happiest employees werent always
the most rewarded. The happiest employees are the ones with a sense of direction and
purpose. They know what they are doing and they know why it is important. These
employees have a good relationship with their bosses, they understand their role in the
company, and they feel like their work matters.
They identified the best companies by sending out surveys to companies across
the nation. The surveys took into consideration pay, compensation, benefits, hiring

practices and work-life balance. They identified the 50 they found to be the best and then
profiled them. The constant among all of the best places to work (according to this
agency) were satisfied employees who enjoy what they do and whom they do it with. The
author put this list together to recognize successful companies, but also to inspire other
companies to improve.
