Do you know what DCEP and DCEN polarity? The term 'polarity' is used to describe the electrical connection of the electrode in relation to the terminal of a power source. With direct current (DC), when the electrode is connected to the positive terminal, the polarity is designated as direct current electrode positive (DCEP). When the electrode is connected to the negative terminal, the polarity is designated as direct current electrode negative (DCEN). This essay will provide the differences between DCEP and DCEN polarity. There are several things that different between DCEP and DCEN polarity. The first different is heat input. The welding using DCEN polarity is higher heat input than welding using DCEP polarity. The second different is welding beat. The welding produced by DCEP polarity, has lower welding beat than produced by DCEN polarity. Another difference between DCEP and DCEN polarity is having dilusion of weld. The penetration of the welds produced on the polarity DCEP is deeper than the percentage of dilution welds resulting from DCEN polarity. This is evidenced by the percentage of dilution welds resulting from the polarity DCEP is higher than the percentage of dilution welds resulting from DCEN polarity. In conclusion, both of DCEP and DCEN polarity has some differences. The differences are from heat input, welding beat, and dilusion. However, the welding will be better if using DCEP polarity because its more efficient to use in thin plate welding and more stable for the result of welds.
