The Nelson Mandela Foundation was established in 1999 after the then President Nelson Mandela stepped down

3. Indias rank in the 2016 Global Hunger Index (GHI)____97th.
Note:
The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a multidimensional statistical tool used to describe the state of countries hunger
situation.
The Index is released by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
4. The National Seismic Programme (NSP) has been launched in Odisha by ___ Dharmendra Pradhan.
Note:
The purpose of NSP is to undertake a fresh appraisal in all sedimentary basins across India.
The survey project will be completed by March 2019.
5. Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmstrom have won the 2016 Nobel Prize in____Economics.

Oliver Hart (British-born) and Bengt Holmstrom (Finland) have won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic

Andhra Pradesh government has released Rs. 99.62 crore to AP-Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development
Corporation Limited (AP-UFIDC) for the year 2016-17 for works taken up under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation
and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.
The scheme is being implemented in 33 cities and towns in the State.

The day recognize girls rights and challenges girls face around the world.
The theme of 2016 is Girls Progress = Goals Progress: What Counts for Girls.
5. World sight day is being observed annually on the October ____Second Thursday.
Note:
It is a global event meant to draw attention on blindness and vision impairment.
It was originally initiated by the Sight First Campaign of Lions Club International Foundation in 2000.
The theme of 2016 is Stronger Together.
6. The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) is observed every year on ___13th October.
Note:
The 2016 theme is Live to Tell: Raising Awareness, Reducing Mortality, which targets to reduce mortality
globally.
7. The World Standards Day (WSD) is observed every year on ____14th October.
Note:
The day pay tribute to the collaborative efforts of the thousands of experts worldwide that develop the voluntary technical
agreements that are published as international standards.
The 2016 theme is Standards Build Trust.

1. Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed Luo Zhaohui as China's new ambassador to ___India.
Note:
Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed a senior diplomat Luo Zhaohui as Chinas new Ambassador to India.
He was Chinas Ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2016.
2. Who has been elected as the Prime Minister of Morocco____ Abdelilah Bekirane.
Note:
Abdelilah Bekirane has been re-appointed as the Prime minister of Morpcco for another term.
Benkirane has been serving as Prime Minister in a coalition government since 2011.
3. Who has been appointed as the Ambassador of India to Austria___ Renu Pall.
Note:
Ambassador of India to the Czech Republic Renu Pall has been appointed as the Ambassador of India to Austria.
She will succeed Rajiva Misra in Austria.

4. Who has been appointed new Secretary General of the United Nations___Antonio Guterres.
Note:
Guterres will be the 9th UN secretary-general by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He will become the worlds top diplomat on 1st January 2017 when Ban Ki-moons term ends on 31st
December,2016.
5. Who has been appointed as Whole-Time Member (WTM) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India
(SEBI)___Gurumoorthy Mahalingam.
Note:
Mahalingam is Executive Director and former regional director of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
He succeeded Prashant Saran, who retired as WTM in 2016.
6. Who has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador of Vizag Steel ____P V Sindhu.
7. Who has been appointed as the acting chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court__ Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty.
Note:
He will replace Justice Virendra Singh.
Now Justice Mohanty assumes charge as acting chief justice of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana and
Jharkhand high courts.
8. Who has been appointed as DG of Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)____Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
Note:
He will succeed Anup Wadhawan.
The DGFT organization is an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with headquarters at New
Delhi.

1. The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at____Jammu.
Note:
The institute will become operational from the Academic Year 2016-17 at the transit or temporary campus at Old
Government College of Engineering & Technology.
2. Indias rank in the Biopharmaceutical Competitiveness & Investment Survey____19th.
Note:
India has been ranked 19th out of 28 nations in the Biopharmaceutical Competitiveness & Investment (BCI)
Survey, with an overall score of 59 out of 100.
The list has topped by United States, followed by UK and Switzerland.
3. Doordarshan has signed an agreement with an open University regarding the transmission of 4 Gyan Darshan Educational
channels___Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
Note:
The Gyan Darshan Bouquet of Educational TV Channels is an educational media initiative of MHRD in
collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prasar Bharati & ISRO with IGNOU as the nodal
agency.
4. The first International Arbitration Centre of India has been inaugurated in the city of India____Mumbai.
Note:
It will provide an arbitration platform for Indian business houses to negotiate commercial disputes.
5. The 2nd Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RSM)-2016 will be held in _____New Delhi.
Note:
It will be held from 15th to 23th October in the premises of Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), New
Delhi.
6. Who has inaugurated the Women of India Festival 2016 at Dilli Haat in New Delhi___Maneka Gandhi.

Ten-day festival will offer the biggest selection of organic products prepared by women.

equipment and devices.
9. The Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has flagged off the newly manufactured Guard Van of Goods Train, in

The train has been equipped for the first time with Solar Powered Light, Fan, Mobile Charging Point along with the
facility of Zero dis charge Bio Toilet.

Note:
The Telangana government has carried out the biggest administrative reform and created 21 new districts.
With this, the total number of districts in Telangana went up to 31 from 10.
Telangana came into existence on 2nd June 2014 as the 29th state of India.
2. Who will launch a scheme Lalima Abhiyan to make state free from anaemia____Madhya Pradesh government.
Note:
It will be effective from November 1st November, 2016.
Under the campaign, free iron folic acid tablets will be provided in Aaganwadis, academic institutions and
hospitals.

4. A new termite species named Glyptotermes Chiraharitae has been discovered at _____Kerala.
5. The 2016 International Gita festival will be held on 6th December at_____ Kurukshetra, Haryana.

The festival will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Number of cultural performances, art shows, literary events and festivities will mark the celebrations up to

5. Recently, Philanthropist and wife of Godrej group chairman Adi Godrej who passed away____Parmeshwar Godrej.

She was Mumbais original queen bee and will be fondly remembered as a style icon.
