Blessed Pier Giorgio

Frassati
Pier Giorgio was born in Turin, Italy. He had
a wealthy family. Although they were
wealthy his dad rarely gave him spending
money. His family owned a newspaper
called La Stampa.
He dedicated his time to prayer, giving
people things, charity, and community.
During times of War in Rome, Frassati
withstood police violence, meaning that
he would not fight back. He encouraged
his friends to do the same. Frassati and his
friends were arrested for not fighting back.
Frassati was well known for fasting from
food, then climbing mountains to add to
the sacrifice. Can you imagine mountain
climbing on an empty stomach?!
Another thing Frassati was known for was
encouraging his friends to go to adoration
with him.

His friends and him would play poker

often. If Frassati lost, he would pay the
money. But if he won, he would make his
friends join him for an hour of adoration.
Frassati was called Man of Eight
Beatitudes by Pope John Paul II, who
beatified him on 20 May 1990.
He died at the age of 24 from a disease
called poliomyelitis.
A quote by Frassati is As long as faith
gives me strength, I will always be joyful.
