SECTION 8 TEST & TROUBLE SHOOTING


To test if GNW / RTG is sending the right data you can use the Windows application named
HYPERTERMINAL.
It will give you the possibility to:
Validate the GNW/RTG Output (Com, Speed)
Validate the UNITs of the data out
Create a TEXT file of the Output for debugging
SERIAL
HARDWARE
Unplug the cable 304.XB.194 from the back of the RTG/GNW and connect the 700.AI.627
cable from GNW/ RTG to GNE/TDC computer
SOFTWARE
Start the MSendGWEB client on GNW/RTG
On GNE/TDC Click on START Programs/Accessories/Communications/Hyperterminal

NB:
If its the first time that Hyperterminal is open then you arrive to this screen 1., otherwise you
will arrive a dialog box asking for Connection Description Name. Enter Name press Ok and
you arrive to Screen 3.
Serial Link

1. Enter 1 for code Area. Press OK

2. Press Ok

3. Choose the media used: Com 1 2. Press


OK

4. Select 9600 for the Bits per Second.


Press Ok

5. If the connection is correct you will see


the WITS stream

6. You can save the data stream in a file


by selecting Capture Text option.
Choose a Name file. The capture will
start. To stop close Hyperterminal or in
Capture TEXT select STOP.

TCPIP
To test a connection in TCPIP, you can send data to hyperterminal on a computer
connected on the same network or to the same PC using LocalHost address (

When you close the Application, the software will ask you save or not the connection
properties. Save it. The connection will be available under:
Start\Programs/Accessories/Communications/Hyperterminal

UNITS
Metric DATA

In Hyperterminal, the wits will contain the same data you see on the RTM screen.

API or MIXED DATA

In Hyperterminal, the wits stream will contain the Database raw data( Metric).
To chech if the value is correct apply the Unit.dat Coefficient

RTM Value = Coefficient Unit.dat x Wits Value + Offset Unit.dat

Check the contents of the directory c:\WitsNT\Db
Copy the content of c:\WitsNT\Savedb in
c:\WitsNt\db. Restart WITS Launcher
Restore with the application the WITS backup
from the server
Re install GNW /RTG (Contact first your Technician)
Check the contents of the directory c:\WitsNT\Db
Check the contents of the directory
c:\WitsNT\MSendGWEB_SND.TXT
Start another Client to check the result
Restore with the application the WITS backup
from the server
Re install GNW /RTG (Contact first your Technician)
Stop GWEB client, Restart Client
Stop Wits Launcher, Restart Wits Launcher, start
GWEB client
Reboot GNW/RTG, start Wits Launcher, start GWEB

Check the wiring of the serial cable.
Check in device manager that the Com port is
actually active
Use HyperTerminal to check the Com output
Try another Com
Re install GNW /RTG (Contact first your Technician)
Check the wiring of the serial cable.
Try to Ping the IP address of the Gateway and the
converter from a computer
Connect on the same network ( in command Prompt
type : ping Ip address )
