Reflection lesson 5

On Sunday November 13, 2016, I taught my fifth lesson which was about fossil. At
the beginning of the class, I told them a short story about trip to the beach.
The story about students went to the beach and they saw fossil of animals. I also
asked them questions related to the story. After that I showed them video about fossil
and I asked them questions related to the video. In addition, I gave each group
different materials. For example, group 1 and 2 paper, leaves and crayon, Group 3
and 4 clay, plate and shell. Group 5 and 6 papers, pictures of the bone of the dinosaur
and glue. I asked them to create a fossil by using these materials. Moreover, I chose
one students from each group to present the work. At the end I gave students
worksheet, I played with them who will be a paleontologist. For this lesson I used
PPT, Video, worksheet, leaves, crayon, paper, clay, plates, glue, pictures of dinosaur
.bones and colors
Before I taught the lesson I was excited and nervous at the same time because this I
think the lesson is not interesting. Moreover, after I taught lesson I felt that my
previous lesson was better than this lesson.
In terms of what were good, I think the best things was that I used differentiation. I
also think that my classroom management was well. Moreover, I think my time
management was good because I finished the lesson on time and I evaluated students
understanding by play with them who will be the paleontologist activity and by the
worksheet. I also think that my group reinforcement was really effective because it
managed student's behaviour. Furthermore, the individual reinforcement was also
effective because it motived students to participate. I also think that telling students
story about trip to the beach was really effective.
In terms of what was bad, I think the thing that was bad that I didnt use different
terminology to explain the concepts. As a result of the students were not able to
repeat the definition. Moreover, I explained the instructions of the deforestation
activity twice, in front of the class and in small group.
I think using differentiation was good idea because the students leaned the different
types of the fossil. However, giving students the instructions twice was not good, one
before they start and one while they doing the activity. I explained the instructions
before because I want students to get an idea about what they have to do before giving
them the materials. After that I moved around the groups and I told them the
instructions again to make it clear for them.
Additionally, I gave each students her or his own material. According to Piaget, the
children learn and develop from themselves (Berk, 2009). Moreover, I let students
to set and work as group. According to Vygotsky, the students learn from spending
time between groups (Berk, 2009). I also gave each group different activity according
to their interest. According to Kyriacou (2007), one of the main reasons that lead to
misbehave in the classroom is the activity that bore students, especially if it does not
meet their interests Furthermore, I think my time management was good because I
used the timer and I gave them five minutes to do the activity.

Next time, I will try to do a more activities. I will also explain the instructions in a
small group. Moreover, I will also try to use more stories.
