As our course which is MEM 560 required us done the industrial visit via suitable process from
metal forming, metal casting, joining, traditional machining, non-traditional machining, plastics processes
and powder metallurgy. Our group has decided that we would done visit based on metal forming process
(stamping process) at the Oriental Summit Industries (OSI) company which is located in Seksyen 28,
Shah Alam, Selangor.
We have done the visit for about 25 persons, which combine with other group of class and
subjects. We spend about 2 hours for the visit and gain more knowledge about the industry. Basically, the
OSI company has done process from metal stamping for metal forming, welding for joining, painting for
good surface finish and aesthetic value, logistic for auto storage retrieval system (ASRS).
This report was made to give information of knowledge that we have gain from the industrial
visit through stamping process of metal forming. We would discuss our findings and conclude in later
explanation.

Products from metal stamping process also can be made through other manufacturing process
such as, machining process. As Kalpakjian (2009) stated that, stamping process were widely variety
operations such as, punching, blanking, embossing bending, flanging and coining, simple or complex
formed at high production rates, tooling and equipment cost can be high, but labor cost is low.
Meanwhile, machining process is the removal of material and modifications of the surfaces of a
workpiece after it has been produced by others methods.

sion

Based on our findings, manufacturing process involved was metal stamping for metal forming
method. There were gigantic machines used for the metal stamping process during our industrial visit.
Their company has used advanced technology to improve their quality and production rate. If there were
defects on the products produce, their engineers will come forward to solve the problems in efficient
ways. Products produced from the company also were widely used for automation company such as
Perodua, Proton, Toyota and others. Their facilities such as welding, painting, stamping and logistic has
been received quality certification and awards from their excellence performances.

There were many benefits, that we have gained through this industrial visit. We were exposed
with working environment of their company through its products production lines. Then, safety is the
most important in work space because it would able cost your life if you do not take it as serious matter.
Discipline also required for an organization to increase its performance. Moreover, defects within
products could affect the quality and performance of the products. There were certain products of the
company has been pirated through Chinas company in cheap cost but their quality is bad. For customer
safety, make sure they buy original parts for their cars as it could be worse if the products were bad
quality (defects) which could cost their car performance.
