ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
Throughout this field experience I have demonstrated my mastery of competencies 1,2,9,11, and 12. I demonstrated
competency 1 by becoming a figurative bridge between my students and their learning. I demonstrated competency 2
through the type of professional language I used with staff, peers and students, and by helping my students improve
upon their reading and oral skills. Competency 9 was showcased through my willingness to become involved in my
school community, by volunteering to chaperon for a field trip, and reflecting upon how important communication with
students parents can be. I demonstrated competency 11 by keeping a professional teaching journal and portfolio, and
by reflecting upon my experiences throughout. Finally, I exhibited competency 12 through my ethical and democratic
behaviour toward my pupils.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
Throughout this field experience I have realized that I wish to explore competency 11 and 12
further. Competency 11 deals with my growth and reflection as an educator. I would like to explore
it further because I feel that I owe this to my students. My students deserve to have a teacher that
is trying to continuously improve her teaching methods, in order to offer the best possible
education, intellectually and emotionally. I want to explore competency 12 further because I feel
like it is easy to judge students based on their disabilities. I want to free myself of any prejudices
and I wish to teach my lessons without harbouring any preconceived notions. Every student is
infinitely intelligent and capable.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

Firstly, I plan on always keeping a professional teaching journal and periodically adding to my portfolio as well. This will help
guide and assess my learning as I continue to grow as an educator. Secondly, I will also continue to keep up to date with the
ever-evolving technology that is now at my disposal. This will enrich my lesson plans, and I owe it to my students to take full
advantage of technological advances. Thirdly, I will make a conscious effort not to judge my students based on their academic
skills, disabilities, and/or 'codes'. This is something that can only really be accomplished once I am given the responsibility of
guiding my very own classroom, so I will commence by instilling this attitude into my "Children's Liturgy" classroom. Fourthly,
the McGill library online database is an excellent resource for articles pertaining to educational psychology. For example, I
recently read a series of articles pertaining to how to properly motivate and nurture students throughout their academic growth.
I believe that I have been successful in displaying an appropriate ethical behaviour throughout my teachings, but I will make a
conscious effort of bettering myself and eliminating prejudices and preconceived notions from my teachings by keeping an
open mind. After all, the only true disability is the inability to see ability. Vikas Khanna
