early life

chen was born in China 1944. but his father, moved his family to Kaohsiung Taiwa
n in 1945. his father is a military officer so that he was raised in military wa
y. he is very dicipline in every way, because of that he become a very smart son
. we are sorry we can not find his early school but he received a B.S. in electr
ical engineering from National Taiwan University before heading to the US. he is
very interesting in engineering world, especially in electrical thing. that is
why he received his B.S. in electrical.
career
chen joined cray research in 1979 when he earned his doctoral in computer. Cray
is the leading sumpercomputeer company at that time. Chen become the lead design
er in Cray and during his eight years works he designed the world's first superc
omputers with two and four CPUs.
he never saitisfy with his discoveries, he always wanted more. he always want to
creare a supercomputers which can work faster and cheaper. For Your Information
you need atleast 10million dollars up to 50 million dollars to have a supercomp
uters. major companies such as Boeing, Toyota and BMW all employed cray computer
for scientific research
The future of American Business supercomputers.
what makes steve chen so interesting is he create a new fax machines which can s
end messages and pictures from computers screen to another computers screen, a
new telecommunication equipment using fiberoptic, and other technological break
through will revolutionize the way we do business and greatly increase productiv
ity. this era is so fun in 1990, chen really gave a big impact on business espec
ially in supercomputers product. this is become the role model of todays invento
r.
he was resign
chen wanted to create a new generation of supercomputers. then, he asked the cha
irman of the Cray researcher to build a team consist of 200-person. the supercom
puter will be work 100 times faster than the old supercomputers. but, his chairm
an canceled because it seemed too costly and risky. because of that thing, chen
resigned from Cray and build a new coorporation and its called Supercomputer Sys
tems, Inc. that coorporation consist of 40 researches and him self. he works rea
lly hard with all of the researches, but because of the project is too costly i
t was very difficult getting venture capital.
IBM helped him
IBM stands for International Bussiness Machine. it is a coorporation which is ma
ke computer as it product. IBM helped Supercomputer systems, Inc. by give chen b
oth seed money and techincal assistance because it wants to have a supercomputer
to fill the upper end of its computer line. chen and IBM did a joint venture t
o build a supercomputer which is has more processors. Cray's only has eight proc
essors, chen and IBM wanted to build atleast 64 processors in it. ofcourse it wi
ll work faster. because it will have 64 painters working at once instead of 8.
became the model of National Medical Scientific Data Sharing
in 2005 china's authorities promoted it but they had trouble to find a good mode
l. suddenly, chen figured out as a solution.
he was choosed because he collected information on farmer's health through assis
tance provided to the People's Liberation Army Hospital and Peking Union Medical
College Hospital networks, those are the company he founded. chen gave computer
s to the doctors there and taught them how to use health management software, t
urning them into "mobile village doctors". his invention is very usefull, becaus

e now doctors only check the record of farmers blood sugar, checkup from the com
puter.
in 2006, the system is mass producted. and HealthGrid Technology received approv
al to use Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province as a test for the system. After tha
t, he was invited by local governments in Gansu and Inner Mongolia to replicate
the model, which is now regularly used for distance consultation.
