Task 2. Classroom Manipulatives.

Identify models and manipulatives that are available to use in a

mathematics classroom that you visit.
o Did you see them being used?
o If so, what models and manipulatives were used?

In classroom especially in math class, I saw the teacher use a lot of different models
and pattern that are ready to use in a math classroom like Cubes, Sticks, and
shapes. My MST makes sure in each session or unit if its needs the methods like in
this unit about digit she used different cubes like once, tens, hundreds and
thousands. "Concrete models can help students represent numbers and develop
number sense; they can also help bring meaning to written symbols and can be
useful in building place-value concepts". (NCTM 2000).These materials support
understanding the idea of the lesson that gives the students the chance to scout
them by themselves, and this is very active in their education.

Ask your MST about how she organizes her class when she uses
manipulatives.
o Does she write her lessons differently?
o Does she use more or less time for the activities?
o How does she prepare the materials before the lesson?
o How does she give directions or model the use of the
manipulatives?

I Ask my MST about how she organizes her class when she uses manipulatives and
she said if the lesson needs some materials like the cubes the students can see in
their groups the manipulatives and check it and tap it to know how its look and how

we also use it if the student finishing early answer the book exercise I late them to
using some math tools to spent the time to contact and thinking with each other.
Moreover, she wrote her lesson with herself but she discuss with the teachers that
take grade three student and sharing ideas between each other to made the class
attentiveness for the students and be stimulating. In the class my MST make
equilibrium between the activities and the lesson that give it to them because some
of its to check if they understanding the lesson or not and other activity to Support
and encourage them. For example, in my teaching practice I using activates two
time because in the beginning I do a warm up to attract them to active with me and
the other activity to check their understanding. So, I prepares the materials and
tools before the lesson from the class or she ask me to takes it from the math room
to make everything ready for the class and each group.
