The Advent Season is Upon Us

Many thanks to Fr. Mark for visiting
every classroom to bless our Advent
wreaths and our students and staff. It
was so wonderful to hear the student
responses to Fr. Marks questions
about the coming of
Christ. As always this is our focus for the
season. Let us all remember that Christ is at
the center of everything we do to prepare for
Christmas.
Let us pray that we shall be able to welcome Jesus at
Christmas not in the cold manger of a selfish heart, but in a heart full of
love, compassion, joy and peace, a heart warm with love for one another.

When is it too Cold?

In determining whether or not to send students outdoors for recess, anytime the wind chill is 25 or greater, students will remain indoors. The
following website is used for reference prior to determining whether or
not students will go outdoors:
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.
Extra Clothing, Please
Please send a bag of extra clothing with your child. Often, children slip in mud or decide to play in it, regardless of parental and teacher advice. It would be very helpful to have extra pants and socks on hand. In a
pinch, we can sometimes find extra items but most students would prefer to wear their own clothing.

Fever, Diarrhea, Vomiting or Stubborn Cough..

If your children have any of these, keep them home.
When children are sick, they cannot participate well in class and learn. Resting at home will prevent the spread of illness to classmates and help your child recover faster.
There is not be a place for students to lie down and rest at school. When your child is not well, it is better for them to stay at home.
Remember, children will get sick; plan ahead so your child will be able to stay at home and get well.

Our grade 7 s and 8s travelled to the

RCR Museum at Wolseley Barracks and took
part in the Remembrance Day ceremony.

The virtue for December is Hope. Hope means great joy. Hope means sharing with others so
that you may bring joy to them. Christmas is a time of Hope. I can help others feel hopeful by
bringing in canned goods to the school. I can show hope by telling the story of how Jesus was
born.

COYOTE FAQS
Recently we have had 2 Hold and Secure situations related to a coyote that was
spotted in our area. Here are few facts related coyotes from Coyote Watch Canada:

Seeing a coyote should not be cause for alarm. Like all other urban wildlife,
theyre looking for food, water and shelter. However, if the coyote is approaching you or in an area that youre not comfortable with (your backyard, a busy park), consider hazing it (making loud noises, throwing objects near, but not at) to scare it away.
A coyote will not see a person as potential prey considering their usual prey is a mouse, vole or fallen crab
apple. However, like a pet dog, they will chase something that runs from them. This is why its important to
never run from a coyote stand your ground, wave your arms, make loud noises and/or throw objects toward (but not at) the coyote to scare it away. Coyotes that have been fed and associate humans with a handout
may exhibit demand behaviour such as nipping or grabbing at clothing.
If you or someone you know sees a coyote in the area, please contact the office so that Animal Control can be
notified.

The Hour of Code: December 5-11

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can
organize an Hour of Code event. One-hour tutorials are available in over 45 languages for all ages.
Coding has become a hot-button topic in education as it has
connections to Math (problem-solving, geometry, patterning,
data management), systems thinking, and literacy. Not to
mention that Computer Programming is emerging as a very
sought-after employment sector. Being a producer of digital
media and understanding how the world around us works is
a crucial skill for 21st Century learners.
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to
computer science, designed to demystify Code", to show
that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science,
starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all
sorts of community efforts. Check out the tutorials and
activities. This grassroots campaign is supported by over
400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.
Check out hourofcode.com for great interactive games

Help Your Child Succeed

Is there a child in your home

who will be eligible to attend
St. Anthonys in September
2017?
New registrations will be accepted from January 16th
February 3.
Mark your calendars!

Calling all parents! The news is out and no surprises today! Parents
make a big difference in their childrens lives! Being a parent can be
challenging but the good news is that you dont have to be the
volunteer of the year or be a math expert to help your child succeed. What you do at home every day with your child will help them to
become successful at school.
Activities that will set your child up for success

Talk about school. Whats happening? What are they learning

about?

Read together in any language. Reading with your child is the

best way to get them interested in reading as well as spending
quality time together.

Praise your children for their efforts and work habits which will
build their confidence.

Help your child explore solutions to challenges.

Tell your child that you believe in them and they will work harder
to meet your expectations!

Cheer on a school team, attend a school concert or come to a
