Rationale

It is important for students to be able find the macro and micro beat in a song
because it determines the tempo and time of the piece.

Activities and Procedures

Make sure the speaker is ready to go before you start teaching


Greet the students
Ask the students if they like to dance
Ask if they remember what the big and little beats were called earlier
Watch how I dance and sway to the big beats
Ask for them to follow
Pause the music and ask if a student has an idea for how we could move to
the big beat, do some examples.
Move however the student wants
Go back to swaying, and now tap your shoulders to the micro beat
Pause the music and ask if a student which body part to tap the micro beat
Tap the micro beat again
Close the lesson
o We found the resting tone with Ally Bally
o We were able to find the macro and micro beats with our rhythm
sticks
o We were able to move like autumn leaves
o We were able to chant rhythm patterns with the bumble bee
o We were able to dance to the macro and micro beat
Sing the goodbye song

Watch for students correctly swaying to the macro beats and tapping the micro
beats.
