1. LITERATURE REVIEW:
What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.

You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.

You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a

common theme or issue.

You don't need to critique your sources

You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)

You need to provide background information such as history and

definitions

Brief Literature Review:

One of the most popular teaching methods in this generation is distance learning.
Distance learning is a way of learning remotely without being in regular face-to-face
contact with a teacher in the classroom (Migdley) Distance learning is also known as
online classes. Instead of the normal going to class, and having face-to- face with the
teacher then students can learn online. Distance education increasingly uses
combinations of different communications technologies to enhance the abilities of
teachers and students to communicate with each other. (cldpoline) There are many
different advantages and disadvantages that distance learning can provide.
There are many different reasons that Distance learning helps a lot of people. One
reason is , the ability to reach learners in geographically remote locations or those in
circumstances that mitigate against attendance at regular and traditional hours
(Madox,2) distance learning is great for Students who are not close to the school or are
not available during all times. It is convenient for students to just go online and turn in
their work online instead of going in person. Classes usually cost a lot of money to take
but A distance learning course often costs less than a full-time degree.
(thecompleteuniveristyguide) A lot of students may not be able to afford a face-to- face

class so they prefer to take an online one.

While there are many advantages there are also many disadvantages. One does
not get the feedback immediately, instead they have to wait for their teachers reviewing
the task and send them for comments (Vlasenko,2) When you are face-to-face you can
ask the teacher for questions or comments, and they will respond right away. Every
student leans different and has different learning methods. Distance learning Does not
provide adequate support for those learners without self-learning habits. (Cosar) some
students might be confused on what to do, and how to use online classes.

2. REFLECTION:

What is your personal opinion on this issue? Do you agree with the
research? If you agree or disagree, please explain why?
Provide examples/experiences regarding this issue from school
perspective or If you are not working in a school, from your profession. Be
specific with your examples. You can mention software/hardware names,
specific methods that you plan to use, etc.
How would you implement this research in your career? (At least 1
paragraph)

Reflection:
There are many different reasons why I agree with this issue. There are different
advantages in Distant learning but at the same time there are many different
disadvantages too. The first online class that I took was A tefl certification class
where I was getting certified to teach abroad. Since I was my first experience with
having an online class I was confused at first but I found it to be conivent but also
complicated at times. It was very reliable with my time, and we always had
classwork due at the end of the week. The only thing that I didnt really like was
that lack of face- to -face time with the teacher. I would have to wait for the teacher
to email me back instead of asking a teacher fast in a classroom.
I will use this research in my future career in many ways. I am not planning to
have online classes, but I want to include it in my course outline in case I am sick
one day or cant go to class for a couple of days. I want to teach early education,
but I also want to teach esl in a college in another country so I can apply this to
then. If I ever do plan to do distant teaching I want to make sure all students
understand before they start their first assignment. I will also understand that
there are a lot of differences so I cant treat it like a normal class.
