What it takes to move one UPS package from New York City to Los Angeles.

To arrive at your doorstep, that unassuming parcel braved multiple cargo flights, hundreds of miles of conveyor belts, and hours wending through busy city streets in a UPS brown delivery truck. Come along for the ride and discover how a UPS package makes its way from the Big Apple to the City of Angels.

Plane arrives at sorting center, and is one of 110 flights carrying more than 1 million overnight packages that will arrive at the hub tonight.

The plane’s 29 shipping containers are offloaded in 20 minutes

Handlers unload parcels from the containers (one of only two times that human hands touch the packages)

Packages navigate 155 miles of conveyor belts in an average of 13 minutes

Packages are reloaded into shipping containers based on destination; 24 containers holding 132,000 pounds are loaded onto a Boeing 767 for California.

Inland Empire at Ontario International Airport, UPS’s West Coast air hub: Flight 0916 touches down, and packages are transferred to a truck bound for the Main Street sorting facility in Los Angeles.
