Roles and responsibilities of an engineer related to safety and health in the real
working environment
1.

Instruction:
a. This project will be carried out in group.
b. Each group consists of 3- 6 members.

Things To Do:

Investigate the roles and responsibilities of engineering graduates related to

safety and health in the real working environment (select only 1 industry).

Conduct comprehensive literature review (journals, books, conference

proceedings) related to safety and health in the real working environment.

Use relevant Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, Factories
and Machinery Act (FMA) 1967, Environmental Quality Act 1974 and/or
Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Management System
standards /guidelines.

Identify diverse groups of stakeholders with widely varying needs related to

safety and health.

Identify ethical behaviour and sense of responsibilities towards society.

Investigate moral issues and suggest countermeasures to solve problems

ethically.

Assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent
responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

Prepare a comprehensive report (maximum 20 pages excluding Appendices)

and presentation slides. Proposed contents of the report and presentation
slides are as follows:

a. Presentation slides (Progress Presentation)
i. Each group is expected to present their progress in Week 8-9
(10 minute presentation which is followed by a 5-minute question and
answer session).

b. A comprehensive report (with proper literature review, in-text citations and
references)
i. Each group is expected to submit the report in Week 14.
