vf.Erciyes 3917 m - localitatea Kayseri (vechea Cezareea) la baza muntelui Erciyes

Uchisar is situated at the highest point in Cappadocia, on the Nevsehir-Goreme road,
just 5 km from Goreme. The top of the Uchisar Castle, provides a magnificent
panorama of the surrounding area with Mount Erciyes in the distance.
Many rooms hollowed out into the rock are connected to each other with stairs, tunnels
and passages. At the entrances of the rooms, there are millstone doors, just like the
ones in the underground settlements, used to control access to these places. Due to the
erosion in places of this multi-leveled castle, it is unfortunately not possible to reach all
the rooms. Most of the rooms, located on the north side of the castle are in use as
pigeon houses (dovecuts) today. Farmers used these cave pigeon houses to collect the
droppings of pigeons which is an excellent natural fertilizer for the orchards and
vineyards.
Marea majoritate a tarii este acoperita de munti:
la nord - masivul Ponti ( muntii pontici )
n centru - regiunea muntoasa Anatolia .
(4168 m).
Intre Konia si Aksaray : caravanserai Sultanhani
langa Avanos : Sai Han (Yellow Caravanserai)
15 km outside Aksaray on the Nevsehir road : Agzikarahan (Black Mouth)
(alternatively known as Hoca Mesud Kervansaray)

The richest concentration of hans is along the Silk Road from Aksaray east to
Nevehir and Avanos: Azkarahan, Tepesidelik Han, Alay Han, Sar Han and more.
The Sultan Han, grandest of all, is west of Aksaray on the Konya highway.
Another Sultan Han and the fine Karatay Han are east of Kayseri.
What's left of the Silk Road? The most prominent part is that which runs between
Konya and Cappadocia. The caravan path has been covered by the modern macadam
highway, but many of the Seljuk caravanserais survive.
The Karatay Han, for example, is among the most beautiful Seljuk Turkish
caravanserais and a major stopping-point along the Silk Road.
The Sultan Han, on the road between Aksaray and Konya, is the largest Seljuk
caravanserais in Turkey.
Most caravanserais are ruined, a few have been restored, and all are worth seeing as
reminders of when the world was much larger, and travel much more difficult and
adventurous, than it is today.
It is possible to see some of the most beautiful examples of caravanserais in the region
of Cappadocia, especially between Aksaray and Kayseri, since it is an intersection, east
to west and south to north; Sultanhani in Aksaray, Agzikarahan in Aksaray and
Sarihan in Avanos. The kervansarays of Cappadocia in central Turkey were built of
hewn volcanic stone, and their walls were thick and high so that they would be safe
from raids by robbers.
Greme is the favorite Cappadocia touring base for many travelers because of its
excellent selection of hotels, inns and pensions, and its proximity to the Greme OpenAir Museum .
rgp has historically been the tourist center in Cappadocia, but a few decades ago
budget travelers discovered the farming town of Avclar, set in a steep (abrupt)
moonscape valley only a mile (1.5 km) from Greme Open-Air Museum. They started to
fill the beds in its simple, cheap family pensions.
Avclar has been renamed Greme, more comfortable pensions, hotels and inns have
been set in restored Cappadocian houses, good restaurants opened, and now the town
is the bustling center of the tourist trade.
Capital of a Cappadocian province of the same name, Nevehir is mostly a transfer
point for tourists.
You could use Nevehir as a base for visits to Cappadocia and the Greme Open-Air
Museum, but rgp and the town of Greme are closer and more interesting.
The town of Avanos is set on the banks of the Kizilirmak, the Red River. The town is
about 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Goreme. Avanos has a lively center with all the usual
amenities including a modern, tourist-oriented hamam (Turkish Bath). A large travelling
market visits Avanos on Fridays. We suggest a visit to Avanos for individual travelers on

Fridays. This tented market has everything for the house, clothing, fruits and vegetables
and more.
here are 36 underground cities in Cappadocia and the widest one is Kaymakli
underground city, while the deepest is the Derinkuyu Underground City.
The Derinkuyu underground city is located in the same named town Derinkuyu, which is
situated 40km from Goreme (30 minute drive).
Ihlara Valley (often misspelled as Ilhara Valley), near Mount Hasan and Mount
Melendiz (two of the three volcanoes of Cappadocia) is a canyon with a depth of
approximately 100m and was formed by the Melendiz River thousands of years ago. It
begins at Ihlara village and ends with Selime Monastery at Selime village after making
26 bends along 14 kilometers.
There are 4 entrances to Ihlara valley. The first one is at the start of the valley in Ihlara
Village. The second one opens to the 4th kilometer of the valley and it is the most
popular entrance, and has more than 300 steps down to the valley. The third entrance is
Belisirma village which allows you to enter the valley by driving. It is located in the
middle (7th km) of the valley. If you will visit the valley by your car, this is the best spot
to park your car. Belisirma has also some restaurants by Melendiz River to have lunch.
Most of the guided tours end their walking here after lunch. The last entrance is the end
of the valley at the Selime Monastery. Some of the trekking tours which walk the whole
valley start from this end. The best part of the valley is the first 7km part from Ihlara
Village until Belisirma Village where you can see most of the churches and natural
beauty.
