HOW YOU CAN

HELP
Top 5 ways to help support FASWVA:
1. Give leftover food. Any food from manufactorers, retailers, farmers or government sources
that can be donated and eaten is accepted.

THE FOOD BANK

& PARTNER
PROGRAMS
The Food Bank is an affliate member of Feeding
America and both have shared the same goal for
the past three decades: eliminate hunger in the
region. The primary effort of the Food Bank is to
secure large amounts of food for the hungry.

2. Donate money. All funds received from corporations, foundations or individuals is highly
appreciated and keeps this program running.
3. Volunteer. Come see first hand how Feeding
America gives to our community. Contact our
agencies to see how you can give back.

8 municipalities have shown a rise of food insecurity including Beford, Craig, Pittsylvania,
Tazewell and Wise counties and Danville, Radford and Roanoke cities.
Within Montgomery county, where Virignia Tech
lies, there is a 15% food insecurity rate amongst
residents. This totals to around 14,000 individuals that do not have proper access to healthy
food.

4. Share wisdom. We are constantly seeking

advice for how to better our program. Knowledge about sustainable gardening is highly
valued as well as fiscal responsiblility and
food safety standards. We want to give the
best information to the community we serve.
5. Advocate for sustainbility. Start local movements to campaign for better government programs and inspire individuals to take actions

So far, over $31 million of food and grocery related products are distributed through a program of 373 partner feeding programs to the
Southwest Virginia region.
The partner programs include elderly nutrition,
food pantries, shelters, harvest home kitchens
and mobile food pantries. FASWVA also partners
with programs that focus on childrens food security needs. These programs are Backpack,
Child and Adult Care Food Program and Summer
Food Service Program.
