The Boomboxers
Group Charter

Our Mission
The Boomboxers long term goal is to reduce the amount of electronic waste in landfills. Our aim
is to extend the lifespan of a targeted product by developing instructions ranging from
completing a minor repair to a complete unit overhaul. Prospect users for this technical guide
will vary from college students living on a budget to well off environmentalists. The guide is to be
written in a graphic format with easy to follow cookbook type instructions. A person with no
background in mechanical or technical skills should feel confident enough to complete the repair
on their own. The Boomboxers will create the easy-to-understand technical guide to repair the
Insignia CD Boombox with Cassette Player and AM/FM Radio NS-BCDCAS1. When the guide
is complete, it will be submitted to iFixit for final approval and publication. iFixit is a growing
company working to decrease the amount of electronic waste burned in the landfills of third
world countries. The team will be led by Cristina Ruiz to guide the overall direction of the project
and ensure meeting deadlines. Final critique of correct grammar and structure, as well as
maintaining meeting minutes will be conducted by Erin King. Diego Geldres and Chi Bui will
research information, pictures, forums, reviews, and any other form of data which may
contribute to the understanding of this product. All members will assist in taking clear and
concise photos of the disassembling and rebuilding of the the boom box.

Expectations
The Boomboxers will make decisions together based on a majority rules ideology. At least three
of the four members must agree before moving forward. Members are available for meetings on
Mondays between 10am-11:30am or 4pm-5:30pm at the Pollack Library, although weekly
meetings are not required. If any member deems a meeting unnecessary then 24 hours notice
must be given to the group via text message. The project manager and at least two other
members are required to attend meetings. In the event that the project manager cannot attend,
no meeting will be held. When a member cannot attend a set meeting, he or she will inform the
other members via text message at least one hour before the agreed upon meeting time. All
formal written work will utilize Google docs, which all members have access to online. Notice
will be given via text message when new work is posted, and feedback must be given no later

than 12 hours before deadline. Undivided attention is required during meetings, members will be
respectful and avoid taking personal phone calls or sending text messages not related to the
project.
Conflict Resolution and Corrective Policy
All members will approach conflict with an open mind and clearly explain their thoughts.
According to Markels PS, we must give collaborators a chance to express ideas fully and find
areas of agreement, and then resolve the conflict with a vote. This is a simple and effective way
to make decisions quickly with the least amount of debating. It is important for team members to
keep in mind the long term goal of the project. According to Jeanne Segals Conflict Resolution
Skills, Focus on the present. If youre holding on to old hurts and resentments, your ability to
see the reality of the current situation will be impaired. Each member may miss up to three
meetings, at which point the project manager will meet with the professor to discuss a possible
termination from the group.
