Essential Question: How do performance enhancing drugs affect athletes?
Working Thesis : Performance enhancing drugs affect athletes health and tarnish careers.
Refined Thesis: Performance enhancing drugs are dangerous because they affects the athlete's health and the use of the drugs destroy
their athletic career.

In this article, James Haley describes performance enhancing drugs as misuse of drugs to give an athlete an advantage during
games. The use of doping (aka Performance enhancing drugs) was adopted in 1963. The first drugs that were used to give an
advantage was heroin and morphine and later adapted into the popular use of steroids. The use of them have tarnished professional
athletes in some ways such as their health. Many think that athletes use performance enhancing drugs only when their careers are in
danger. Many athletes are trying to achieve their goals to be on top and be the best performer they can be. They think taking

performance enhancing drugs is a must do. This article is relevant because it describes how it started and why athletes continue to
abuse these drugs to achieve greatness.

In this article, Michael Lavin describes the risks of using performance enhancing drugs. Players seek the abilities to perform at
an elite level to stay competitive. Athletes are provided with drugs they can use, but most of the time the athletes will do what it takes
to win. Limited drug use make the high level of achievement to get reduced but these bylaws are not always followed. The
performance enhancing drugs bylaws has three laws to follow: they are, has advantage during sport play, Health defects, and or it does
not follow sports standards. The use of the illegal drugs are limited in the sports community for a certain reason which is to limit the
health and the dangers of the athletes in the sports community. This article is relevant because it describes the effects, why the athletes
commit these issues, and why they try to limit the interactions.
