Childrens understanding of the central idea will be assessed using a variety of


methods including photos, videos and anecdotal notes. These pieces of evidence
will be used to assess the learning that has taken place during the unit and to
summarise the childrens understanding that living things in our care share the
same basic needs.

Library

Students will be introduced to books that associate living and non-living things, flowers plants animals and people. The students will be listening and watching short films of
how plants and animals grow and how we treat them. The students will help build Jacks Bean Stalk during lessons together with growing some flowers/plants for the
library which will be taken care of by them this will link with classroom activities (caring for living and non-living things). Students will be dramatising books as a group
(Jack and the Bean Stalk) and learning to distinguish parts of a story beginning middle and end.. Taking care of books and learning how to navigate the library to locate their
favourite books of interest. In addition the Lightbox will help us to explore stories from around the world and watch non-fiction material related to the UOI. The puppets
will be used to help us focus on the Learner profile during group discussions.

Music

Students will

Visual Arts

Students will:

Participate in physical education activities developing gross motor skills.

Develop running, jumping, throwing, catching and kicking skills.

Play small games that practice these skills and develop collaborative learning, teamwork and organisation.

Experience the enjoyment and satisfaction of being physically active.


Develop attributes and attitudes that encourage lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.
Students will:
