Name: Sarah Jo Greer
PART A: Students can be granted the opportunity to create and publish movies through the help of MovieMaker as a way to
show their knowledge of the coursework that had been previously taught. It can serve as a good reflection of the content learned
and to show their understanding of the work. As far as publishing, they can send it to the class blog where the teacher can publish
it for them. Teachers will have to stay wary of following the districts policy on distributing certain limits of students
information onto the blog, or to be sure the blog is secure.

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: The issues of air, water, and land pollution

Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do? How will
the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care about the multimedia projects
students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide
feedback to students about their work? (Overview should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs)
The video paired with this lesson will serve as an intro to the pollution covered standard. The students will have just
gotten back to school from the weekend. Over the weekend they had been prompted to think of a few ways to help the
Earth stay a little cleaner and to learn about the different types of pollution through provided videos on the class blog.
Once the students view the video, they will be asked what different types of pollution they saw throughout the video and
what small steps can be done to fix it.
The students will choose one of the three types of pollutions listed in the standard and create a movie focused around
that one pollution. The audience can include anyone because it pertains to our environment and our planets well being.
The teacher will provide the feedback to let them know the accuracy of their content and the quality of their video. If
there are any glaring factual errors, the student will receive assistance in the correction, however if it is an editing issue in
the movie, or something minor, it will be noted, but not corrected.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? If the students and
teacher have access and permission to post the video onto the class blog, they will have reached to LoTi 6 due to their achieved
publishing opportunity. This grants students the chance to see their work live and published.

Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?
Authoring tools are vital for the access and doors that they open for the videos potential. Yes, a video could be created, but it
wouldnt nearly be at the level or potential a video with the tools can reach. There are just so many opportunities taken away
without them.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
The scary thing about the internet, is that its the internet. There is access to everything if you enough about computers,
everything. Fortunately, those with those skills are very few. The risk of putting a childs information on the internet is just that.
There have been students who have posted their full name, their age, where they live, or even what school they go to for projects
where they were assigned to tell about themselves. Teachers must be wary of the precautions to take to help parents feel at ease.
Teachers should post students name by first name, last name initial. Or just their first name. If possible, they should also
avoid posting any pictures of them on the internet unless the site it is going on is password protected such as a password
protected class blog. Not only will this comfort parents, but also may be obeying any rules or restrictions the district themselves
have over the internet access and safety of their students
