Essential Question: What type of help is given to Alzheimer patients in the U.S. ?
Working Thesis: The care and help needed for someone with Alzheimers disease is very
underrated and not taken seriously.
Refined Thesis: Doctors and physicians should let the world know the appropriate care that
Alzheimer patients need once they can no longer take care of themselves.

Alzheimers Disease. Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia (2016): 1p. 1. Funk &
Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia. Web. 22 Sept. 2016.
The Article from Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia describes the deterioration
of all Alzheimer disease patients. It informs the world the process in which the disease
completely takes over the body to the point where they can no longer care for themselves. It also
educates us on how the disease spreads; hereditarily. It goes on to tell us that doctors abilities to
diagnose the disease have increased, but there is still no cure. There are drugs that can subdue the
attack of the cognitive abilities. This article backs my opinion that the care for Alzheimer
patients is not a joke and is much more advanced than others may think.

Provided To Persons With Alzheimer's Disease And Related Disorders." BMC Research

Notes 9.(2016): 1-8. Academic Search Complete. Web. 22 Sept. 2016.

Abiola Hazzans article explains the hardships that are put on the caregiver for the
Alzheimer patients. It tells people what they go through on a day to day basis. While trying to
take care of the sick person, they also have to juggle many more obstacles just so they can keep
that person comfortable. This article also informs us that the caregiver can also have
deterioration on themselves. There was a study conducted on how the well-being was of the
caregiver after spending some time with their patient. As they are constantly taking care of
another human being, they tend to forget about themselves altogether. This can have a drastic
effect on ones quality of life. This article goes along with my belief that appropriately caring for
an Alzheimer patient can eventually take a toll on their own body.

Schiffczyk, Claudia, et al. "Appraising The Need For Care In Alzheimer's Disease."

BMC Psychiatry 13.1 (2013): 1-7. Academic Search Complete. Web. 22 Sept. 2016
Claudia Schiffczyks article explains that family is a very important factor when

taking care of an alzheimer patient. There was a study on not giving the patients the
pharmaceuticals that they are prescribed to see if they help, do nothing, or make the
symptoms worse. It also found that the area in which the patient is living is important as
well. It shows that the caregiver of the patient can develop symptoms of depression and
anxiety. This is important as depression can make caring for the patient harder as you

are battling your own fight. I included this article in my research because it reflects my
belief in caregivers of this disease do the best they can and the proper care needed for
these people are more important than anyone could imagine.
