Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration
Site/Publishing Opportunity in your classroom: Each Journey North Study
can be used for a variety of grade levels. Mystery Class is the one project that is
most appropriate for grades 4 and higher because of the calculations required.
However, many early primary teachers have used it successfully with students.
There are many features and strategies for adapting Journey North to your
students' developmental levels
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed
learning activity in a classroom? In order to operate this website, you would
need enough technology tools for each student. Computer based websites are
always a good tool for group collaborations and projects, therefore four groups of
three, each using a computer would work.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning
experience (note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but
most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom
and often beyond their school: Journey North can be used for
collaborations extending beyond the classroom. Emphasis is placed
on learner-centered strategies that promote personal goal setting and
self-monitoring, student action, and collaborations with other groups,
another school, different cultures etc.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original
data and or producing original products as a result of engaging in the
project): Students are able to focus on specific topics and study all
that it has to offer allowing students to be more engaged in their
findings and creations. After doing so students can collect information
that theyve collect. This helps students to process information.
c. Higher-order thinking:
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care
about their product: Students are able to post findings and display
them for the public. Students are also able to view other works and
gain knowledge from their peers.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning
activity and Why? I Believe that LoTi Level 5 best describes this learning activity
because it underscores and defines what this activity can bring into the
classroom. The complexity and sophistication of the digital and environmental
resources and collaboration tools used are commensurate with the inventiveness
and spontaneity of the teachers experiential-based approach to teaching and
learning and the students level of complex thinking; decision-making,
experimental inquiry and in- depth understanding of the content standards.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still
comply with your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?
