The Analysis: Girls Gone Wild in Red Light District
Girls Gone Wild in Red Light District is far from what the usual may expect. Rather than
an erotic display of women, Stop the Traffik presents a powerful view of women synchronically
in union as they battle for awareness through dance. Stop the Traffik is a worldwide movement
that establishes resilient communities and prevent human trafficking. Their goal, is to inform
people of the tragic occurrence of human trafficking. The people could not turn a blind eye to
women who could dance with as much prowess as these few and once entranced by their skill,
the people were speechless when facts of human trafficking were presented on the billboard
above them. Stop the Traffiks Girls Gone Wild in Red Light District embodies women
strength and unity, while sending a powerful message that will hopefully scare the crowd into
being aware of the tragedy of human trafficking that occurs around them.
Stop the Traffik, founded in 2007 by Steve Chalke, started out as a two-year campaign
whose objective was to prevent the sale of people, protect those who have been trafficked, and
prosecute the traffickers. In the allotment of two years, over 1.5 million activists supported Stop
the Traffik, which then became an independent charity. The fighting power of Stop the Traffik
comes from hundreds of thousands of activists who devote themselves to end human trafficking
by creating change and awareness in their communities. With the efforts of their activists and the

dedication of the organization of Stop the Traffik, the issue of human trafficking has been
brought to my attention, and it shall be brought to the attention of many others.
People trafficking is the fastest growing means by which people are enslaved, the fastest
growing international crime, and one of the largest sources of income for organized crime.
Human trafficking, also known as modern slavery, is a global issue that exploits humans, and
violates the rights of human. Although trafficking is reported in majority of nations each year, it
is rarely spoken about publicly. An estimated 21 million people are victims of human trafficking,
and forced labor, sexual exploitation, and state-imposed labor are all forms of the modern
slavery. Also, human trafficking not only affects women, as 45% of the victims are males
(reported by freetheslaves.net). In order to put the issue of human trafficking into perspective,
12.5 million Africans were enslaved and brought to America during the transatlantic slave trade
from 1525 to 1866. There are almost twice as many reported people in modern slavery, which
many dont believe is the actual number due to the tough nature of tracking human trafficking. A
recent case of human trafficking in the US occurred when a man, Jordan Noel, who sued the
Ottawa police force for racial profiling was accused of forcing his girlfriend to sell herself
sexually. Human trafficking happens more often than most think, and should be seen as a major
conflict for the world.
The performance of the women speaks very loudly. The women begin on display posing,
showing where most of the aspired dancers end up thanks to human trafficking. As more people
gather around to take a look, the dancers shake fervently, symbolizing the uncontrollable rage,
despair, and trauma that these victims experience. Afterwards, they dance in synchronization,
causing many more people to take notice while they present the dreams of many of the girls that
others may usually see in the Red Light District. The dancing comes to a close as facts of human

trafficking are shown on a billboard above the dancers that states when falsely promised a
dancing career, many women end up here thanks to trafficking. These women intend to show
everyone of what their fellow sex could be if human trafficking wasnt such an issue in their
country, and the people are willing to finally open their eyes. Tragically, this certain performance
does not represent the males who are victims of human trafficking as it focuses mainly on
women who are coerced into sexual exploitation.
In a way, the way the powerful performance happened to outline how victims are drawn
into trafficking. The people saw the women on Red Light District, where in a situation similar to
this one, there would be an erotic display of the women. The womens clothes and poses may
even suggest that they were about to put on an erotic show, but once the people are drawn into
their trap, the women break out into what seems like spontaneous dancing. The surprised crowd
watches the performance in enjoyment, fooled into watching it but not being able to stop. In the
end, the billboard pops up with statements about trafficking, once again the crowd has been
tricked. The people were led to believe the performance was to be sexual, with it turning out to
be a campaign to inform them about human trafficking. Many women are tricked, like the crowd
has been, into trafficking.
In conclusion, Stop the Traffiks Girls Gone Wild in Red Light District successfully
reinforced their cause of bringing awareness to end human trafficking. The unexpected, planned,
and symbolic performance of the women draws a crowd, similar to how girls are tricked in
trafficking, and dance to fight for the aforementioned victims. Although they are not represented
in this campaign, males are also vulnerable to human trafficking. Human trafficking is an issue
that is prevalent globally and should be brought to the attention of more people so that we can
collaboratively put an end to modern slavery. Stop the Traffik and many other organizations have

begun the fight against trafficking, but more must be done in order to rid the world of the issue at
hand.
