STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT

Describe the Class

5th grade

15 students are in the classroom; 2 intellectual disability students, 1


student with ASD, 1 student with emotional disturbance, 2 ADHD students, 3
ELL students, 2 gifted and talented students, and the 4 students who are learning
disabled.
Subject/Skill: Reading

Plot identification: Identify the plot and main message of the story
during reading interaction.

Character recognition: Recognize the characters and their


intentions in the story.

Word Analyzation: Analyze and remember certain words in the


reading session.
Objective(s)

Given a set of reading materials, reading students will identify the


main plot, setting, and intentions of the characters with 80% accuracy.

With reading materials from the book,Two Bad Ants, reading


students will interpret and define the meaning of certain words with 85%
accuracy.
Procedures
1.
Following along with the readings, reading students will recognize,
analyze, and identify all the major components in the story,Two Bad Ants. This
book will help further expand basic knowledge of science, biology, reading, and
cultural phenomenon.
2.
Students need to have a basic knowledge of science, math, reading
and cultural understanding to help them learn further knowledge of the subjects.
3.
The teacher will read the book to the entire class, and show the
illustrated passages to the students.
4.
Teachers will use the method of scaffolding and participatory
questioning with the students.
5.
Students will review what they have learning from the story, and
write down their answers on a reading review worksheet.

Text-to-speech technology (modifications)
Electronic pointers (modifications)

Grouping Structures

Group size: Whole classroom

Location: Classroom

Activity: Reading session and review


Modifications

Students with severe disabilities may use a text-to-speech tool, or


an electronic pointer to answer the questions.

Learning disabled students will practice writing certain words


within the reading vocabulary with 80% accuracy.

Gifted and talented students will write an after story with the
characters from the previous story; they will include math, science, and cultural
references of their own.

ELL students will do an oral review to practice their English


further.

Students with ADHD may sit in beanbag chairs to let out excess
energy, and they may also have a chance to actively interpret the scenes out to
their peers.
Assessment

The teacher will let students work on their reading review


worksheets, and give extended time if necessary.

Once students hand in the review worksheet, students must answer


questions the teacher will give about the story.

If the classwork is complete, students will work on a homework


reading passage about ant biology and their colonies. Students will compare and
contrast the two reading passages and apply further knowledge from what they
previously learned.
