Systematic Observation
Evaluation Team
October 25, 2016
Week 4

1.) Overview
This is a systematic observation for Julio Cervantes and Freda Pus teaching performance for
the week 4 of October 25, 2016. In Julios lesson, it was based on hand and eye coordination
through basketball skills and locomotor movements. The prior skills needed is having some
basic knowledge with basketball skills such as dribbling with one hand and not two. The
equipment needed for this lesson was 20 basketballs, 20 tennis balls, 20 cones, and 20 poly
spots. This was taught on the blacktop with approximately 20 3rd grade students during the
lesson. In Fredas lesson, her lesson focus was a frisbee hammer throw. The equipment needed
for this lesson was 10 frisbees, 24 cones, 20 poly spots, and 4 hoola hoops. There were
approximately 20 4th grade students during the lesson.
2.) Systematic Observation 1
The first systematic observation that was completed was the System For Observing Fitness
Instruction Time (SOFIT) on Julio Cervantes. Based on the DT performance and the observation
form that I completed, there could be more time spent in having the students move with a
purpose. According to the data collected, the students had about 10 minutes and 30 secs of
MVPA which is a good start. But it isnt enough, keeping in mind that the lesson took 27
minutes. Things we can improve on next time is when we have a bathroom break, Julio can
walk the students to the bathroom and I can watch the students who are just getting a drink of
water. This can help facilitate the lesson quicker because we do not have to wait for the kids to
come back. It took approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds for all students to come back from
a bathroom break. Another thing we can work on is the closure. We need to get the attention of
all student or most of the students and have a proper closure. Something to think about is
having them sit down so they do not move around alot. Also, have a student demonstration can
be helpful also.
3.) Systematic Observation 2
The second systematic observation that was completed was the Time Analysis on Freda Pu.
Based on the DT performance and the observation form that I completed, the student spend a
good amount of time on the lesson activities. According to the data, the students spent 810
seconds on activities, 450 seconds listening to instructions, and 300 seconds being managed. I
thought this lesson went well because it was an activity that the students were already familiar
with. So they were really engaged in it. Something we can improve on is less instruction time.
Something to keep in mind is if the students will sometimes lose focus if the instruction is too
long. Another thing we can work on is being more engaged with the students. From personal
experiences, the students usually creates a bond with the teacher, which can result in positive
things happening during the lesson such as listening and obeying rules. I think this will help alot
with Fredas lesson.
4.) Closure

All in all, I think this week was a good week for both Julio and Freda. I think their lessons were
really controlled and they got majority of the class focused into the lesson. There are still room
for improvement, but both DTs are improving each week, especially achieving the goals that we
make each week. Considering the rain on Thursday, I think both DT did a great job coming up
with indoor games and keeping the students active for the most part during their lessons.
