SUBJECT:

Disassembling and Reassembling a Complete Fixing Assembly for the

Color imageRUNNER C5180 Series Engines

GENERAL:
This Technical Publication is to inform field personnel about the proper procedure to disassemble and
reassemble a fixing assembly for the Color imageRUNNER C5180 Series copiers.
DETAILS:
Presently, the complete fixing assembly for the iRC5180 series cannot be obtained as a completed unit.
When it requires replacement, the existing fixing assembly must be removed from the copier, disassembled
and some of the old parts reassembled onto the new Fixing Unit (known as the Twin Belt Assembly) part
number FM3-0691-000.
PROCEDURE:
Prior to performing the following procedure, it must be emphasized that all parts removed from the old
Twin Belt Assembly must be retained as they will be used to assemble a completed fixing assembly. Should
any of these parts require replacement, a list of available service parts is included at the end of this
Technical Publication.
1.

Properly turn off the copier and open the left side fixing door. Slide out the fixing assembly and let it
cool down.

2.

Remove the large black rear cover (two screws) which conceals the Fixing Drive Assembly, part
number FM2-5684-000. When removed, unplug the connector and remove the three screws. See
Figures 1 and 2.

Fixing Drive. It is accessed from the interior of
the copier. This picture is of the screw as viewed

Next will be the removal of the Fixing Belt Mount Sensor Assembly. This is accomplished by
unplugging the two (2) connectors shown in Figure 12 and routing the wires out of the Upper Fixing
Cable Guide shown in Figure 13. Slide the Upper Fixing Cable Guide towards the left to remove it.
Then remove the two (2) screws shown in Figure 14 and remove the Fixing Belt Mount Sensor
Assembly. Remove the screw shown in Figure 15 and remove the black plastic piece. This will make it
easier to remove a screw later in the procedure. See Figure 15.

Turn the Fixing unit around so that the paper exit side is facing you. The wire harness guide will have to
be moved out of the way, to make it easier to remove the Fixing Belt Control Motor Assembly and
Pressure Belt Control Motor assembly. Remove the two (2) connectors and the screw shown in Figure
16 and slide the wire harness downward. See Figure 17.

When reassembling the Fixing Unit, ensure that the sensor arms from the Fixing Belt Control Motor and
Pressure Belt Control Motor Assemblies are sitting on top of the blocks. Failure to do so will cause them
to break. See Figures 25 and 26.
