a. What was the objective of the lesson?

After lesson and activities, the student will be

able to count the number of sounds and manipulate endings in words by counting the
number of sounds in the words presented in a game.

b. How did the students demonstrate their understanding/learning of the content

presented? Provide specific examples from the lesson and student work to support
your analysis. The student demonstrated her understanding of the content by
counting the sounds of the word that a picture represents. She drew a piece of paper
from a stack, identified the picture and then counted the number of sounds that she
heard. She also demonstrated her understanding by counting the words that she
heard in the words that I spoke to her. Lastly, the student was able to differentiate
the sounds in words by replacing the endings of words with different sounds.

c. To what extent did the lesson, including instructional strategies, learning

activities, materials, resources, and technology, help to facilitate student learning? How does
the evidence you collected support this finding? The lesson contained instructional
strategies such as scaffolding and modeling. I was able to demonstrate how many sounds I
heard in a word and then I listed words for the students to count the sounds. The lesson had
a board game to play that helped the student practice counting sounds on her own. There
was also a counting mat that allowed the student to visualize the process of separating and
counting the sounds that she heard. In the book provided in the lesson, there were many
rhyming words that the student read that corresponded to the part of the lesson where the
student had to manipulate the endings of words. By reading the book, the student was able
to learn how the lesson applied to their daily reading of books. I witnessed the students
improvement throughout the lesson as they continued counting sounds and manipulating
endings. I was able to see the student put their new knowledge into action while they played
the game at the end and participated in other activities.

d. How could you use your analysis of this lesson and the evidence of student learning to
guide your planning for future lessons? Provide specific examples. I noticed that the lesson
seemed very repetitive when I was listing words for the students to count sounds. I could
somehow make that part of the lesson more fun by having the student do actions to the
sounds that they hear or segmenting the words by sounds on the whiteboard. I could also
adjust the words that are used in the board game if the student find the words too easy or
too hard.

e. Give a personal reflection of what you felt went well and what you would change the next
time you taught this lesson? I thought the game went well and I the book reading went well.
I could have practiced reading the different sounds of the words, so it was easier for the
students to respond to the sounds and words that I said.
