Structures and Systems
Artists pursue artmaking as an investigation, exploration, and discovery of meaning
(Walker, 2001). Art gives a meaning to artists to explore and create big idea that are related
through the artists personal connections. Student can also express art by exploring different
areas of art collection to create a different perspective but with a meaning they they are able to
understand. During the creation of the artwork are able to generate essential questions as What
can I do different? or How can I connect this is into something important?. The instructor
challenges the students in a variety of ways that students can take risks when creating art. By
interpreting their art they are able to share and discuss their big ideas with other students where
they are able to understand the meaning of the structure that the students creates which leads that
students are able to gain knowledge and skills as well.
In order to demonstrate structures and systems in a classroom I would create an activity
where students are able to demonstrate and build a sculpture through personal connections.
Students will be able to connect their big idea through personal connections by exploring the
outside world for example researching art from different artists or media. By this students are
able to build an artwork that is meaningful to them the society that surrounds them. In this
activity the students are able explore the different ideas they can be put together to create a
meaningful art. For instance in the article of 10 Lesson the Arts Teach it states that arts celebrate
different multiple perspectives (Eisner, 2002). Its explains that in art there are different point of
views of how you see or interpret an idea is a way to give the artwork an opportunity to give a
purpose in what the artwork unfolds. In conclusion the students are able share within groups of

what they have created. There is no right or wrong answer the only thing that matters is the
individual sees art and how other will gain from it from the inviduals point view.
