Each course in the Core Music Curriculum as well as all other required courses in music and music performance must be passed
with a grade of C or better to progress through the curriculum.
All music majors must enroll in Applied Music, a Primary Ensemble, and Performance Class every fall or spring semester they
are enrolled in school.
Piano/Organ majors must take four semesters of MUSC 2150 (Accompanying) instead of four semesters of Class Piano.
In addition to the courses in the Core Music Curriculum, Bachelor of Arts in Music students must complete the following:
a. A designated minor or second major. Most designated minors at UNC Charlotte are 18 hours, but some are 15
hours or 21 hours. If you choose one of these minors, you must consult the relevant department about the
specific requirements. The Department of Music cannot waive or reduce minor requirements from another
department. A student can propose an 18-hour minor area of study if a comparable one does not exist at
UNC Charlotte. In this rare instance, the student must petition the faculty in the Department of Music and
garner approval to follow this proposed area before coursework is taken.
b. 13 hours of electives. Of th ese, no more than 7 hours of may be in music, and any music electives must be at the 2000
level or above. The remaining elective hours must be in areas outside of music; this may include additional courses in the
minor or second major.
c. 6 hours of additional music classes, which are comprised of the final semester of a Primary Ensemble (1 hour), the final
semester of Advanced Applied Music (2 hours), the final semester of Advanced Performance Class (0 hours), and Senior
Project Preparation (3 hours).
All music majors must successfully complete the Sophomore Review before enrolling in any MUPF or MUSC courses at the
3000 or 4000 level. See the Student Handbook for the requirements of the Sophomore Review process.
All music majors entering Fall 2013 and later are required to enroll in at least two Secondary Ensembles prior to graduation. See
the Student Handbook for approved Secondary Ensembles.
