Dear Mr. Trump,
I know as of right now you are on a cloud that one would never want to come off of as being the
45th President Elect of the United States of America. With that being said I would like to
congratulate you on the biggest achievement there ever was and thank you for committing to our
country. As of January 20th, 2017, you will be the new President of the United States and despite
how the rest of the world feels about it you are going to be the face of America. With that
responsibility we as Americans will look to you for a sense of guidance, hope, love and much
more. Because of that, some things that you have stood on in your running for President concerns
me. As someone who is a sister, a friend, a supporter, and a person who loves the LGBT
community, I am writing to you from a very concerned point of view.
Approximately 19% of men in the United States are gay or bisexual and 27% of women are
according to a survey taken in 2015. Whether or not you agree with a persons sexuality, in
section 1 of the 14th Amendment it is stated that, No state shall make or enforce any law which
shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state
deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any
person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. So as the future President of the
United States with you making statements such as There can be no discrimination against gays.
Im against gay marriage you contradict a country that you are about to be in charge of. You
even said when you were asked about equality for the LGBT community, that Its something I
havent given lots of thought to.
What concerns me is, although America is not where it needs to be with gay rights, America
under the Obama administration has made a lot of progress to finally having some sense of
equality for everyone regardless of their sexual preference. With you saying that you would
strongly consider appointing judges to overturn the Marriage Equality Act because you are
opposed to gay marriage, that sets back everything that the LGBT community has worked so
hard to achieve. As a supporter of this community I am writing to you to encourage you to come
with an open heart and rethink the things you have said. It is not something that you have to
agree with, it is not something that you have to support however, as an American President you
do not do things based off what you feel solely but for what is right for the country. So, as a
citizen of the United States I am asking you on behalf of the LGBT community to find it
somewhere in your heart to do whats right for the country you will soon be in charge of.

You said that from the standpoint of my teachings as growing up and going to Sunday School
and going to church, and Ive been opposed to it, and I completely understand that view being a
child of the church as well. However, Im quite sure that in church you learned that God has the
last say. All I am asking is that you look into your heart, to find it in you to not undo all of the
progress we have made.
