Tonia Hamilton 12/7/16 Academic Success Reflection Paper 1 I attended the auditions to the Poetry Slam. I was a contestant, and it was one of my first live performances so I was a bit nervous. I performed, although I had read the words I had written on my phone, and I hurriedly sped through my piece, then rushed off the stage. I was not accepted to move on to the later performances, but it was a good stepping stone for my music career. I enjoyed the event because it helped me get out of my comfort zone. It allowed me to experience a performance in front of a big crowd, filled with people I had never met before. It was okay for me to make the mistakes that I made, because it was my first time so it was a learning experience. I could mess up, because it would only mean that my next performance could be better. It gave me a chance to have more of a personal relationship with my fans, as they got to see me at my most amateur performance, then see me grow into a legendary performer. I do with that it couldve been a better first impression. The crowd was enjoying my piece, and better execution wouldve improved their reaction.
