I heard a Fly buzz when I died Analysis

The fly, in Emily Dickinsons I heard a Fly buzz when I died, works as a symbol
of demon and Hell. The fly is associated with Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies. Beelzebub is a
demon and one of the princes of Hell. He has control over the flies that gather and buzz
around the dead. The narrator is lying on the bed waiting for death to come. There are people
surrounding her. Their eyes are all dry due to the crying and weeping. The narrator has done
the distribution of her properties and is ready for her new beginning. The narrator believes
that God will grace her with his presence. Then, he will take the narrator away to Heaven
where she will begin her life again. However, what comes to get her is not God, but a fly. The
narrator says Assignable and then it was/ There interposed a Fly (11-12). The fly
interrupts her with its buzz. The narrator points out that the fly is Between the light and
me (14). The light can be referred to God and Heaven. Therefore, the flys act of
intervening the light is an act of demon. As mentioned above, the fly is demons underling.
The fly is preventing the narrator from going to Heaven. She is not going to Heaven like she
is expecting, but the complete opposite. The fly is a guide sent to lead the narrator to Hell and
there is nothing she can do to fix it because she already failed to see.
