Performance Task

You are a book reviewer who works for the school newspaper. You are assigned by your
supervisor to read the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (the previous novel weve read in
class). Write a book review to identify the historical context, the symbols, and the characters that were
presented in the novel. The review must meet standards of creativity and professionalism, as well as
contain accurate evidence and information to help readers reflect on the novel.

Goal: Your task is to identify the literary elements used in the novel.
Role: You are a book reviewer
Audience: The target audience is your supervisor and the readers of your book review.
Situation: The challenge involves dealing with reading a novel and analyzing the work.
Product/ Performance and Purpose: You will develop a book review in order to analyze the literary work.
Standards & Criteria for Success: Your work will be judged by your accuracy in identifying the literary devices used in
the work. You will also be expected to develop a creative and professional piece that can be published in a book review
column on a newspaper.
