Transmission
After disassembling the transmission:

determine the gear ratios of all gears:

1. gear .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... i = ? ....................

2. gear .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... i = ?....................
3. gear .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... i = ?....................
4. gear .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... i = ?....................
5. gear .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... i = ?....................
(or highest)
(Overdrive: yes

or

no?)

reverse .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... i = ?....................

calculate the transmission output speed of the 1st gear (at an engine speed of 1500 r.p.m.) and compare it to the
output speed of the highest gear at the same engine speed!
(use the space at the backside of this paper for calculation!)

Inspection of the transmission

Shift Control Components:
Check contact surface and sliding surface for wear, scratches or other faulty
conditions
(selector rod)
Gear components:
- check shafts for cracks, wear or bending
- check gears for excessive wear, chips or cracks

main shaft and gear

counter gear

Synchronizers:
- check spline portion (shift dog) of coupling sleeves, hubs and gears for wear or cracks
- check shifting inserts for wear or deformation
- check insert springs for deformation
- check synchronizer ring

- measure clearance between synchronizing

ring and gear and compare it to manufacturers
specifications

Bearings:
- make sure bearings roll freely and are free from noise, crack,
pitting or wear
