MEMBERSHIP
1.1

TheEducationCommitteeshallconsistofnotlessthanfourTrusteesandtheHead
Teacher(orherrepresentative).

1.2

Thecommitteemayappointsuchcoopted,nonvotingmembersasagreedbytheBoard
ofTrustees.Thesememberswillserveinanadvisorycapacityandmayincludestaff
nominatedbytheHeadTeacherfollowingconsultationwiththecommittee.

1.3

OthermembersoftheBoardofTrusteesmayattendmeetingsoftheEducation
Committeeandmaycontributetodiscussionsonmattersunderconsideration.

1.4

Onlyfullmembersofthecommittee,asapprovedbytheBoardofTrustees,shallhavethe
righttovoteonanyresolutionplacedbeforethecommittee.

ROLEANDRESPONSIBILITIES

Theroleofthecommitteeis:

tobetheguardianofthecurriculumonbehalfoftheBoardofTrusteesbychecking
thattheeducationalprovisionmatchesthecollegesaims,objectivesandvalues,
meetingallstatutoryrequirementsandmakingthebestuseofallresourcesavailable

tomonitoronbehalfofallstudentthedeliveryandachievementofeducational
activityandtargetssetforthecollegewhetherbythecollegemanagementorterms
ofstatutoryregulationsorpractices
toensurethatprocessesareinplacetosupportstudentswithadditionalneeds,
particularlythosewithstatements,sothatsuchstudentscanhaveequalopportunity
toaccessthecurriculumandcanfullybenefitfromtheireducationwithinthecollege.

Responsibilitiesofthecommitteeare:

toensurethatallpoliciesrelatingto,butnotlimitedto,thewholecurriculum,
includingteachingandlearningstyles,studentwelfareandguidance,statutory
curriculumrequirements,attendanceanddiscipline,sanctionsandrewards,
examinationsaccreditationandeducationaltargetsarereviewedregularlyand
implementedcorrectly
tobeinvolved,whereappropriate,inthehandlingofcomplaintsfromstudentsand
theircarers,andtodealwithallotherissuesrelatingtothestudents,their

ToadvisetheBoardofTrusteeson,andtomonitor,thecollegescurriculumstatement
anditsstatutoryobligationsregardingtheNationalCurriculumandensurecompliance
withtheInstrumentsofGovernment/ArticlesofGovernment.

WiththeassistanceoftheHeadTeacherandstaff,tosettargets,toprovideinformation
abouthowthecurriculumistaught,evaluatedandresourced,andthetargetsare
achieved.

ToreviewonbehalfoftheBoardofTrusteesthepolicyandprovisionforcollective
worshipandforreligiouseducationandtomakerecommendationsforratificationbyfull
BoardofTrusteesandensurethatthepoliciesareimplemented.

ToreviewonbehalfoftheBoardofTrusteesthepolicyandprovisionofsexeducationand
otherPSEpoliciesandtomakerecommendationsforratificationbythefullBoardof
Trusteestoensurethatthepoliciesareimplemented.

relatedlegislationandtoensurethattheassessmentandrecordingofstudent

Tomonitorandreviewtheequalopportunitiespolicyinrelationtocurriculum
development.
Toreviewandmonitormattersrelatingtothebalancedtreatmentofpoliticalissueorthe
prohibitionofpoliticalindoctrination.
Toconsiderandmanage,ifappropriate,aSubjectGovernorprogrammewhereeach
memberoftheBoardofTrusteesworksandintegrateswithindividualcurriculumareas.
Toensurethechargingpolicyisdevelopedfornoncurricularactivities(egmusictuition)
andmonitoritsimplementation.
Toensure,inconjunctionwiththeHeadTeacher,thatacurriculumisdeveloped
consistentwiththeaimsoftheschoolandtomonitortheimplementationofthis
curriculum.
ToadvisetheBoardofTrusteesonthetimesofthecollegesessionsandthedatesof
collegetermsandholidaysandtomonitorthetimetableingeneral.
Tomonitortherelevanteducationbasedbudgets(egcapitation)andliaisewiththe
financecommitteetoensurethatanyconflictsbetweenfinancialprudenceand
educationaloutcomesareresolved.

Toensurethebestisdoneinsecuringthenecessaryprovisionforanystudentwho
hasadditionalneeds.

governor)hasbeeninformedbytheLocalAuthoritythatastudenthasadditionalneeds,
thoseneedsaremadeknowntoallwhoarelikelytoteachhimorher.

TosecurethatteachersintheCollegeareawareoftheimportanceofidentifyingand
providingforthosestudentswhohavespecialeducationalneeds.

needsprovisionintheareaasawhole.

DECLARATIONOFINTERESTS
11.1

Wherethereisaconflictbetweentheinterestsofanygovernorandtheinterestsofthe
BoardofTrustees,thatpersonmustdeclaretheinterestandwithdrawfromthemeeting.
Ifthereisanydisputeastowhetherapersonmustwithdrawfromameetingunderthe
regulationsonBoardofTrusteesprocedures,theotherTrusteespresentatthemeeting
willdecideonthematter.
