assessment) for your case study student while he is in your class for your chosen subject area.
3. Fill in the chart below. Include citations of where you got the ideas for your
accommodations and strategies

Student Case Study: Tony working in Social Studies. (History)

Accommodations and
Strategies

Social Studies (History or Geography) or Science

Environmental

-Make adaptive technology readily accessible; ie screen readers, text to

speech, etc. (Alberta Education, 2010, p. 90) This is to try and open
multiple meaningful ways of accessing content and generating content.
Comprehension and retention of information coupled with meaningful
expression are the primary areas of concern. Access to these technologies
may provide an easier path to understanding or expressing understanding.
In a history class this may appear as allowing the computer to read an
important document to him rather than have Tony read it himself, thus
bolstering his oral skills and accommodating for his comprehension.

Instructional

-Provide experiential learning opportunities such as role playing, drama,

storytelling, or in the direct case of social studies debate.(Alberta
Education, 2016, p3) In the class this may appear to as a historical skit to
help deepen the connections between historical figures and their actions
throughout history.
- When employing direct teaching strategies use multiple forms of
representation as opposed to direct oral transmission of knowledge.
(Alberta Education, 2010, p. 90) This could come in the form of using
multimedia powerpoints in place of traditional note overhead sheets. This
relates into our case study as a pseudo letter-sound decoding strategy.
Using images, sound, video along with lecture and text can help act as
context clue to overcome comprehension issues.
- Employ regular interval co writing strategies such as journal entries.
(Alberta Education, 2010, p. 69)Regular practice will serve as a meaningful
way to help Tony practice writing organization skills regularly. Regular
explicit skill practice is an effective intervention to weak or poor writing
skills.

Assessment

-Provide multiple means of expression for understanding (Alberta

Education, 2010, p. 90) Tony has issues expressing himself and
composing traditional prose, allowing him more open ended means of
expressing understanding may provide a more accurate assessment of his
learning. In a History class this may appear as allowing a skit or
monologue in place of a paper to assess if Tony understand the topic at
hand.
