Imitative Writing
WIDA Standard 2007: English Language Proficiency Standard 2: English language learners
communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content
area of Language Arts
WIDA Level: 1
Grade: 1
Purpose: Students will copy illustrated word pairs grouped by families to demonstrate their
ability to form letters and sentences accurately. Worth 15 points total, individual words worth 1
point each, no partial credit, and sentences worth 2 points, one point for correct spelling and
one point for accurate spacing.
Language Objectives: Produce graphemes and orthographic patterns of English
Content Objectives:
English SOL 1.12 The student will print legibly.
a) Form letters accurately.
b) Space words within sentences.
Directions (students will hear): copy the words or short sentences you see in the blanks. Pay
attention to capital letters
Example:
