Standard 6: Educators have a broad knowledge base and
understand the subject areas they teach.

I have a well-rounded education, with an Honors B.A. from The University of Western Ontario. I have a
double major in English, Language and Literature and Media, Information and Techno-culture as well as a
writing certificate. I completed a Canadian Studies course from TRU and Math course from NIC.

In my Post-Baccalaureate Education program at VIU I continued to educate myself and expand my


knowledge by attending the Fundamental Movement Skills workshop, Kerri Isham’s Sexual Education
workshops, and a variety of courses ranging from Governance and Social Justice to Physical Education,
Science, Language Arts, Child & Youth Development and Math with a focus on Elementary Education.

Standard 7: Educators engage in career long learning.

I participated in I.E.P meetings, staff meetings and “Laura uses reflection as a tool to improve her own
