Chemaly, Soraya. 20 Facts Everyone Should Know About Gender Bias in Movies. The
Huffington Post. The Huffington Post, 24 Sept. 2014. Web. 22 Nov. 2016. The article
discusses about the lack of women being shown in the media in today's world and how
the impact can affect the viewers. Also, the article discusses the small percentages of
women in different categories or jobs that they are being represented in films globally.
For example, there are a few women being represented in STEM jobs such as,
engineering, science, and math. I found this argument through the google search engine. I
searched for "gender stereotypes in films" and found this article while looking at my
other results. The article is reputable because it gives statistics and facts from an actual
source that deals primarily with gender and media which is the Geena Davis Institute on
Gender in Media. This article will be useful for my essay because it provides me with the
statistics and quotes of why the representation of women in media is important. When
talking about this article in my essay, I will be able to not only use it to support my claim
of why women will feel more empowered, I will also be able to connect the huge
difference in percentage of men being able to star in more films than women for my
counter argument.

Cole, Stephanie. "The Women of Harry Potter. Spark Movement. Girl Field Guide., 22 Jul.
2011. Web. 15 Nov. 2016. The article deciphers 4 characters of the Harry Potter films
such as, Hermione Granger, Narcissa Malfoy, Professor McGonagall, and Luna
Lovegood. In the article they are not only interpreting and describing each female
character, they are also giving reasons why they are so strong and how they can impact
the roles of many actresses and showing that they too can have a variety of options to
play a role in a film. I found this argument using the google search engine. I searched
"women roles in Harry Potter" and I found this article while looking throughout the other
searches. I feel as if this source is credible because they are able to provide proof of what
they are trying to state by quoting the book or the films of Harry Potter. This article will
be useful to my essay because it will help me provide background for a variety of unique
female characters. I will be able to connect how the representation of women goes farther
than just one personality trait or stereotype.
Unknown. "Gender Roles and Harry Potter." hpiper.wordpress.com. N.p., 9 Jun. 2010. Web.
15 Nov. 2016. This article discusses about the Harry potter films and how they have an
underrepresented amount of female characters. The article also talks about how the
stereotypes are used throughout the film and book series and how the author of the books
challenged the notion of gender with her descriptions of each character and their actions.
I found this argument on the google search engine. I searched "gender roles and Harry
Potter" and found the article while looking at other related searches. I feel as if this
source is credible because the author of the site cites where they got their information in
their own annotated bibliography as well. So I feel as if the person who wrote the article
was able to back up their opposing viewpoint with knowledge on the sources they cited,

films, characters, books, and JK Rowling. This article will be useful for my essay because
it will be able to give me more supporting information to what my counter argument is
trying to state which is the main character and villain are both males and how the amount
of men casted on the film is still superior than the women.
Heusinkueld, Olivia. "Why Does Media Representation Matter." The Wake. University of
Minnesota, 23 Mar. 2015. Web. 22 Nov. 2016. The article discusses about the
importance of why the general representation of all people matter. The article talks about
the way it affects people they've interviewed on the way media is displaying all types of
people and if there even is enough representation out there in the media. I found this
argument using the google search engine. I searched "why is media representation
important" and I found this article while looking at other searches as well. I feel as if this
source is reputable because they give actual statistics of representation throughout films
and the article shows the different reasons and viewpoints of actual people and how they
were impacted by media, so I knew I was able to get authentic opinions on how different
people felt about media representation. This article will be useful for my essay because it
will help me connect how the media affects people and connect it to my claim of how the
Harry potter films and their female representation can affect people as well.
Yandoli, Krystie. "Why Harry Potter is a Feminist." Alternet. N.p. 14 July. 2011. Web. 20

not heroes and how they are still influential and needed throughout the stories and films.

Rowling, a woman herself, being an inspiration to many young girls. I found this

argument using the google search engine. I searched for "women representation in Harry
Potter films" and found this article while looking at others as well. I feel as if this source
is credible because the article actually gives facts regarding the author, JK Rowling, and
is able to back up what they are saying. I also feel as if the article was well thought out.
This source will be useful for my essay because it will help me connect the point to my
claim that not all of the women roles have to be a certain type like a hero or a sidekick,
they can be villains as well. Also, the article helps me connect the way JK Rowling has
inspired others as well by simply creating the idea of the story which men and women
have loved for years.
Young, Sage. "28 Harry Potter Women Ranked by Character Development, From Helpful
Ghosts to Fearsome Witches." Bustle. N.p. 11 Jan. Web. 20 Nov. 2016. The article
lists 28 female characters shown in the Harry Potter films. Under each character the
article explains their different strengths, traits and moments where they stand out in the
films. I found this argument using the google search engine. I searched for "women
representation in Harry Potter films" and found this article after looking at others. I feel
as if this source is credible because it gives actual information and scenes of what
happened in the films that goes with each character. This allows me to know that they are
not basing random information under each character in order to rank them. This source is
useful for my essay because it helps me prove my topic of how there are some different
characters in the film and each one has an attribute which shows the different favorites
that the audience enjoys. I will be able to connect the different attributes of each character
in order to support my claim that there is no one type of girl or woman out there and the

Harry Potter films help portray that especially with the issue of women being
underrepresented in other films.
