Whether your career takes you into the fashion industry or forensic accounting, whether you work in the UK or abroad, the ACCA

If you are a school leaver with a minimum of three GCSEs and two A Levels, in five separate subjects including maths and

English or if you have equivalent qualifications, you can start studying the ACCA Qualification straight away.
Highers
The ACCA Qualification is broadly equivalent to degree standard when you take the first nine papers (the Fundamentals
level). When you take the Professionals level, it is equivalent to a masters degree.
I like the flexibility of the ACCA syllabus; there are many different ways to study and many high quality centres to
study with. The ACCA Qualification is highly respected in the accounting profession, and most of the clients I work
with have employees studying ACCA.
Apprenticeships
Our foundation level suite of awards is suitable for school leavers aged 16 and over, who have no previous qualifications. It
is the perfect stepping stone towards a rewarding career, and allows you to progress through a range of qualifications that
build up your skills and knowledge. This boosts your CV and can impress future employers, and allow you to move on to
studying for the ACCA Qualification.
You can work and train in any sector, giving you the freedom to pick the path that you want to. Accountants are always in demand, even in a
recession, and ACCA sets a syllabus that ensures you get a solid grounding in all areas of finance before specialising at the end. Our flexible

Working at ARM
If you own a mobile phone, camera or MP3 player, the chances are that you regularly use an ARM Powered
product. Our technology is at the heart of a wide range of digital products for use at home, work or on the
move. Founded in 1990, as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, ARM began life as a UK-based joint venture
between Apple Computer, Acorn Computer Group and VLSI Technology. Apple and VLSI both provided
funding, while Acorn supplied the technology. There were 12 founding ARM engineers, who set themselves
the bold objective that everyone worldwide should own at least one product based on ARM technology.
Today, ARM is the worlds leading semiconductor intellectual property (IP) supplier. Headquartered in
Cambridge, UK, ARM has grown rapidly and now has over 2,500 employees across the world.
ARM prides itself on being one of the best employers in the UK and globally. The company is building on this
reputation by attracting top university talent through a range of schemes that are highly regarded by the
industry. ARM has a distinct culture that is based on global collaboration, teamwork and fun. Being such a
diverse, dynamic and multinational company, it offers a wide spectrum of career paths and the promise that
no two days are ever the same.
Having found the Aldi Apprenticeship Scheme on the Government Apprentice website, I quickly discovered that it had the opportunities I
was looking for. After a thorough application process I was off and running. The fast pace of the role is really exciting with lots of chances to
learn new and useful skills. As well as the on-the-job training, there is also studying towards a recognised qualification that I can fit around
work. I am really enjoying the chance to get ahead and would recommend anyone thinking of this scheme to go ahead and apply.
After attending college I was looking for an opportunity that would allow me to use my customer service skills and the Aldi Apprenticeship
has given me just that. I found the scheme on the Apprenticeships website and haven't looked back since. The application process was

The placement offers a great opportunity to be exposed to every aspect of the business. The level of responsibility that other placement

I viewed it as a year-long interview, so it was a great opportunity for the business to get to know me and me to get to know them. I came

The most challenging part of the experience was being asked to go in and lead teams of people who had a lot more experience than I had.

At ARM we offer placements across our business that will enable students to build the key skills needed for future
employment. Students will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that will challenge and help develop their
abilities. There are opportunities in R&D, Engineering, Marketing, HR, IT and Corporate Responsibility.
One thing the scheme definitely did was make me feel like a valued member of Aldi's team. I would sum up my experience as challenging,
rewarding and inspiring. Having successfully completed my Retail Placement I went onto the Graduate Area Manager programme and have
now made it to be a Buying Director.

working part-time at her local Asda as a Jewellery Assistant. After 12 months of college she realised that she really
wasnt enjoying being in the education system and preferred being in a working environment more. She worked with
a great team of diverse colleagues in an environment that was fun and fulfilling. There were also a lot of people

Now aged 21, with just under five years service, Sarah works as Section Leader supporting her manager to run a

Asda is a very busy and challenging environment to work in. Every day is different. Thats what makes it
exciting and fun. Working with customers and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds is what makes each day
so different yet so rewarding - and we have fun! My next step in terms of my progression and development is to
start the Stepping Stones programme because I would love to step up to Department Manager with an ultimate
goal of becoming a General Store Manager.
Once your training concludes, you will be assigned to your first placement and given the opportunity to become an integral
member of a project team. As an Associate, you will be responsible for business analysis and project management across
multiple clients and industry specialists as you move across projects. Most importantly, you will have real responsibility from

Keren Long started on the George graduate scheme in 1997 and quickly rose through the ranks to Lingerie
Merchandiser, where she took the business from a 15 million to a 50 million per annum division in just 12 months.
Following further promotions she was appointed Trading Manager in 2000, responsible for merchandising across
various departments. After four years, Keren was promoted to Central Operations Manager, managing the
relationships between stores and George House, delivering new wage management processes, communication
tools and conferences. In 2008, she was named Head of Strategy and Change and, in 2010, moved to Bangladesh
to take on her new role as Bangladesh Sourcing Director.
As her first overseas role, Keren was responsible for researching and setting up a new sourcing office that would
support the George UK business. The office grew to 34 colleagues that worked together to raise productivity and
improve efficiency in local factories, while at the same time ensuring the quality and ethical standards of the George
products are maintained. In recognition of her work Keren was named Innovator of the Year at the 2011
Everywoman in Retail Awards. Keren was also commended by the judges for her community work in Bangladesh
where George helped set up the Jamgara HOPE school, providing education to under-privileged children.
After enjoying working overseas Keren has recently taken on the role of director for George Brand Development in
South Africa, launching the George brand within Massmart, a South African business recently acquired by Walmart.
This involves everything from developing local suppliers, customer research to formulate the range for this market,
store design, brand marketing, financial management and logistics a true end-to-end job encompassing
everything Keren has learnt through her career at George so far.

The engineering graduate scheme gives you real exposure to the business and the opportunity to get stuck right in

A challenge no two days are the same for me which keeps me on my toes and makes my job interesting. Also the
environment to work in and the people I work with are second to none.
The engineering graduate scheme gives you real exposure to the business and the opportunity to get stuck right in
with high level projects where you can make a real difference. My line managers on my rotations have all been really
supportive and allowed me to get involved in areas where Ive had a particular interest. Also, the training has provided
me with many skills in order to be successful and confident in job roles in the future.
What parts of the programme really interest you?
The rotation scheme was definitely of real interest to me, as it allowed me to move into different areas to get a real
understanding of how the engineering team comes together. It was also a chance to trial a team which I may want to be part
of in the future. Also, core training where I have developed skills in order that will help me be successful in the future.
