OBJECTIVE:
The project presented in this report is The Car Jack with extended arm
support, The word machine is used for anything which will reduce human
power. In the presented case, I have designed a car jack which has additional
components. The purpose of these components is to reduce the human effort
while lifting the vehicle; additionally it will provide the opportunity to attach
the servo motor at the end of the rod. The attachment of servomotor further
reduces the human effort to zero.
The Assembly have basically 08 components, furthermore some components
have variable quantity, Name of all the components are enlisted below;

BRACKET 1

The Bracket 1 is one of the major loads carrying component of the car jack,
this is modeled using different features of the SOLIDWORKS 2016, initially
an Centre Point Straight Slot command is used and then specified distance is
maintained by using the constraint tool, Then Circle command is used and is
constrained at the centre of the major axis of the Centre Point Straight Slot.
Then smart dimension tool is used to control the diameter of the circles
drawn. Then boss extrude feature is used, this will convert 2D sketch into 3D
body. After that the outer face of the BRACKET 1 is selected and a Circle of
diameter 12mm is placed on it.
Then to remove the material from this 3D object extrude cut command is
used , in the depth 6 mm depth is given so that we will generate the hole up
to the required dimension.

CAR PULLER

The Car puller is the component of Car jack, which will directly interact with
the loads (i-e Weight of the car). This is modeled with the help of variable
commands. Initially a circle is drawn, and then this circle is converted into
the semicircle with the help of Trim command. The Trim command have
multiple functions, in our case Trim closet is used, which will trim all the
entities outside the required area. Then a centerline is drawn. After that
Revolved boss/Base feature is used, this will revolve the 2D close sketch
about the centerline generated previously. After using this command a hollow
semi sphere is generated.

Then from reference geometry top down menu, A place is selected drawn
56mm offset from the centre of the sphere. A circle command is used to
generate a sketch, which will be later used as a baseline for Boss extrude
command, in the dimension limit upto surface is selected. The surface of the
sphere was selected as the limit of the boss extrude.

BRACKET 2:

The Bracket 2 is also the major component of the car jack, this is modeled
using different features of the SOLIDWORKS 2016, initially an Centre Point
Straight Slot command is used and then specified distance is maintained by
using the constraint tool, Then Circle command is used and is constrained at
the centre of the major axis of the Centre Point Straight Slot. Then smart
dimension tool is used to control the diameter of the circles drawn. Then
boss extrude feature is used, this will convert 2D sketch into 3D body. After
that the outer face of the BRACKET 2 is selected and a Circle of diameter
12mm is placed on it.

Then to remove the material from this 3D object extrude cut command is
used , in the depth up to next is selected so that I will generate a through
hole.

LEAD SCREW:

The Lead Screw is the component which will convert the rotary motion into
the linear motion, In modeling this component, Circle and Boss extrude
command is used at different planes. The hole is generate by using the
extrude cut command, to give the visualization of the threads, the threads
command is used from the annotations tool box.

Link Rod:

The link rod is the supporting member of the Car jack, these are the
components which are transferring the load to the ground , they are 08 in
quantity. This component is modeled using Centre Point Straight Slot
command and Boss extrude command.

Vertical Support:

The vertical support is the innovative part introduced in the car jack, the
major purpose of the component is to provide the arm rest to the rod and to
reduce the human effort while lifting the car. This in combination with base
support enhances the lever arm of the Jack rod, which will result in less force
requirement to lift the car.
This component is modeled using the different commands of SOLID WORKS
2016, Initially a 3D box is generated using the boss extrude command, the
Shell command is used in which thickness of 5mm is maintained. To provide
the rotation edges are filleted by using Fillet feature. Different holes are
generated with the help of extrude cut and Holes feature.

Jack Base Support:

Jack Base support is the component attached to the ground and providing
the rigid support to the whole car jack. This is modeled using different
features of sketch. This involves centre line, line and Arc command. Then
Boss extrude is used to generate 3D object, after that Mirror command is
used to replicate the object at certain distance. Fillet feature is also used at
one end to provide the rotation to the other mating component (i-e The
Vertical Support).

The Jack Rod:

The Jack rod is the component which will give the person provision to apply
the force to lift the car, This component is modeled using the Circle and
guide curve command, Which is converted into 3D object by applying the
swept Boss/Base feature.

ASSEMBLY:

In assembly, initially all the components are added to the system, The
coincident constraint is applied between all the holes. Then parallel
constraint is applied between the Bracket 1 and the Jack base place to that
the motion will remain restricted to the parallel planes. The perpendicular
constraint is applied among Bracket 2 and Jack base plate, while parallel
constraint is applied between both of the bracket 2, to ensure the vertical
motion.
The fasteners are imported from the library of the solid works and fixed with
the holes where they are required.
