What is Instructional Gaming?

Instructional gaming is instructional software that is designed to


increase motivation by adding game rules and/or competition to learning
activities. Instructional games often amount to drills or simulations
overlaid with game rules.
Instructional gaming: All games vary by difficulty. They can be adjusted to
being very simple or being very challenging. It all depends on the students
and their grade level.
Instructional gaming can also be implemented as a support resource to the
curriculum.

Disadvantages
Could lead to distractions.
Risk of unhealthy competition.
Complaining, sadness, frustration, anger, violence, etc.
Lack technology training.
Pressure on the teacher.
Student assessment.
Cost.

Advantages
Efficient and valuable.
Increases social skills, collaboration, and creativity.
Gain deeper knowledge of content (Education World, 2016).
Active participation.
Beneficial assessment tool (Edutopia, 2016).
Socrative, Kahoot, Zaption.
Makes learning fun!
