To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Tran Loc Thuy Nhu and I am writing in application for the Holland scholarship to
assist me in my studying time in the Life Sciences programme at HAN University of Applied
Sciences.
To begin with, Brian Greene- a physicist quoted that: Science is a way of life. Science is a
perspective. Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner
that's precise, predictive and reliable - a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it,
that is empowering and emotional. Hence, I desire to be a lucky one who has an opportunity to
explore the immensity of the science world. Holland- the country possess a worldwide reputation
of scientific research- is an ideal destination for me to lay a sound background to encourage my
dreams. Going to study in Holland I have chance to take part in an international community and
join in interactive education system to become an innovative and creative thinker. It is
considered as an significant change in my lifetime.
I have found an interesting fact that the most common reason that students apply for a
scholarship is due to their difficult financial resources. In fact, my father is working as a
mathematics tutor at the present because he is in his retirement while my mother is pursuing her
fashion career as a designer. Thus, to be honest, my parents have enough ability to support my
studying in Holland until I finish my bachelor course. However, I still greatly desire to live
independently as many other international students. Additionally, I am confident of my talent and
my credentials, I would like to clarify and persuade you that I absolutely deserve your honour
scholarship.
There is a quote of Nelson Mandela that was deeply ingrained into my consciousness:
Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world. Indeed, the
previous generation of my family including my uncles and my father have their jobs which
somehow connected to the field of engineering and education whereas my mother did not have
an opportunity to attend college. Albeit she had to face many struggles at the early time of her
personal and professional life, eventually, she got success in fashion area due to her willingness
and her potentials. These made my early conception about the value of education along with
hard work and dedication. Because of my familys wholehearted stimulation over the years, I
have been cultivated to devote the time and energy necessary to academic accomplishment.
In my junior year of Nguyen Thuong Hien high school, I have a 9.0/10 grade-point average and
have been named the best student of my selective class. I also I attended one of the best classes
of my high school and gained a sound basis of natural sciences, which supported me to achieve
the third prize in The competiton for the gifted students at Chemistry of Ho Chi Minh city, and
then I got relatively high result (26/30 points) in the university entrance exam. In addition to
focusing on my own studies, I also took part in an English club of my high school. I have been
active in my school and community outside of the classroom, joining many charity activities as
well as volunteering some campaign such as conserving the green environment. Every semester
of three-year period, I was rewared as one of the good students who got excellent academic
record and completed the disciplines as well as outdoor activities.

To prepare for writing this letter I recalled my childhood when I was often curious about all
surroundings, such as plants, animals, human life and so on. When I was only in secondary
school, I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and find biology as well as the life
sciences extremely interesting. Indeed, my school report has indicated my great ability in
science-related subjects. While pursuing a Pharmacy program at my university, I was suggested
the Life Sciences program at HAN University of Applied Sciences by a representative of HAN.
The target of Life Sciences is to enhance the quality as well as the standard of life by various
applications in health, agriculture, medicine, the pharmaceutical and food industries. Graduates
with a Life Sciences degree have a wide range of choices, even they are interested in natural life,
human considerations, technology advances, or the most novel area as mind-neuroscience. This
increased my interests in taking this program, to connect my future prospects with various
scientific career, thus, I can contribute my talent to a wide range of fields, not only in
pharmaceutical industries as I am pursuing at the present.
It is an honour duty for young generations like us to acquire and experience the innovations and
the state-of-the-art technologies from developed countries, then bring the valuable knowledge to
contribute to the worldwide science research. This scholarship represents to me an opportunity to
fully focus on the main objective of achieving the best in the Life Sciences program at HAN.
Because my parents have been sacrificing themselves for my life, I want to share the financial
burden with them at the first school year abroad as well as to prove them my first success when I
begin a turning point of my life. Last but not least, I did not have many opportunitie to join in
social works during my school years. Thus, if I am rewared this scholarship, I will have more
budget for participating in a wide range of outdoor activities to broaden my horizons along with
sharpen my interpersonal skills. If I become a prosperous scientist with professional skills and
savvy, I will come back to Vietnam not only to lay the firm foundations for the scientific fields of
my home country but also to serve my parents, who have been sacrificing for my success.
In brief, I am writing this letter, not only for gaining an honour scholarship but also for the desire
to affirm the ability of my rhetoric to persuade your Holland scholarship committee. No matter
how the result of this scholarship application will be, I will be determined to do my best to
pursue my career, since I strongly believe that the aspiration for learning and dedicating that
values to the society never betrays the humans.

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate this application.

Best regards,
Tran Loc Thuy Nhu
