MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Katelynn Dallman

PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.
Students can create videos on practically any subject. Ideally they would do something with lots of option such as the
standard in this lesson. They would need to do research on the person in history in order to create a video about that person
with valuable information.

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: SS5H6 Describe the importance of key

people, events, and developments between 1950-1975.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what will students and
teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will
use/care about the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will
student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students about their work?
(Overview should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs)
Student will each choose a different person to research during the given time constraint of 1950- 1975. They will do research on
his person and find important information about their life. They will then use MovieMaker to create a movie about their person
using images, text, music, and video. Once everyone has made their movie we will share them in class.
By creating a movie they are able to explore their creativity while also engaging in meaningful higher order thinking.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? This
would be LoTi level 4 and above because they are not only using technology to research but they are using it to create a new
product.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience? This project could not be done
without technology because there would be no MovieMaker to use. They wouldnt be able to use the internet to research their
historic person.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether
in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from
others. The MLK assignment in class inspired this project.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Copyright is always a concern when you are downloading pictures, videos, and music to add to your videos. By teaching children
to make credits where they are siting where they got everything and giving due credit, you eliminate the possibility of breaking
laws. Always approve multimedia with parents and administrators so that you cover all your bases.
