1.0

SCOPE OF THIS DOCUMENT:

1.1

This specification describes the essential considerations in the selection, installation,


calibration, testing and commissioning of Electronic Flow Transmitters.

1.2

The Contractor shall be responsible for the procurement, packing, calibration, testing at
yard and offshore, shipment to yard and offshore site, installation and commissioning at
site of the Electronic Flow Transmitter.

2.0

3.0

SCOPE OF SUPPLY:

3.1

The number of Electronic Flow Transmitters to be supplied and installed shall be as per
the process requirements indicated in the Basic Bid Work and the P & IDs.

3.2

The scope of supply shall also include commissioning spares and two years spares as
required by clause 3.6.4.8 of Instrumentation Design Criteria, and as suggested by the
Manufacturer.

4.0

ELECTRONIC FLOW TRANSMITTERS:

4.1
4.1.1

General:
Electronic Flow Transmitters shall be of differential pressure type and shall be quipped
with an integral output indicator calibrated in engineering units and external zero
adjustment. The integral output meter shall be intrinsically safe and weatherproof to
NEMA 4X / IP 66.

4.1.2

The transmitter shall be mounted local, on a yoke. All mounting accessories required
for 2 pipe shall be provided.

4.1.3

The transmitter shall be intrinsically safe.

4.1.4

Cable entry to the transmitter shall be NPTF.

4.1.5

The Electronic Flow transmitter shall operate on 24 V DC negative earthed and shall
generate a 4 20 mA DC, 2-wire output signal.

4.1.6

The transmitter shall have a load driving capability of 600 ohms at 24 V DC.

4.1.7

The flow transmitter shall be provided with a 5-valve manifold.

4.2
4.2.1

Measuring Unit:
The pressure element in the measuring unit shall be Diaphragm.

4.2.2

Wherever Diaphragm seals are required they shall be Filled System type with a 1
Flanged process connection and flexible armour. The diaphragm seal shall also have a
flushing filling connection with plug.

4.2.3

The process connection to the measuring unit shall be NPTM.

4.3
4.3.1

Material:
The material requirements for Electronic Flow Transmitters shall in general be
according to clause 3.6.4.5 of Instrumentation Design Criteria and according to the
Material Selection Chart provided in Annexure I of this document.

4.3.2

The case material shall be of SS 304 or Manufacturer Standard.

4.3.3

The element material of the measuring unit shall be suitable for the process conditions.
The Wetted parts of the diaphragm seal shall be same as that of the element material.
The capillary material shall be SS 316 and the armour material shall be SS 304.

Accuracy:
Electronic Flow Transmitters shall have an accuracy of 0.1 % of span or better.

Repeatability:
Electronic Flow Transmitters shall have a repeatability of 0.25%.

5.0

EQUIPMENT PROTECTION:

5.1

Electronic Flow Transmitter protection requirements shall in general be as per clause


no. 3.6.4.4 of Instrumentation Design Criteria.

5.2

The transmitter shall have 130% over-range protection.

5.3

The enclosure class for the Flow Transmitter shall be Weather proof to NEMA 4X / IP
66.

5.4

The Flow Transmitter shall be certified intrinsically safe by a statutory body and
certificate for the same shall be provided.

6.0

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:

6.1

The installation of Flow Transmitters shall in general be according to clause 3.6.4.6 of


Instrumentation Design Criteria and as per Annexure II (Hook-up drawing for Flow
Transmitters) of this document.

6.2

The LCD output meter provided with the Flow Transmitter shall be easily visible from
grade. Where this is not possible, a separate loop-powered indicator shall be provided
for easy visibility.

7.1

CALIBRATION, INSPECTION & TESTING:


Calibration, inspection and testing requirements shall in general be as per clause 3.6.4.7
of Instrumentation Design Criteria. In addition, the following shall also be taken care
of:

Flow Transmitters shall have a means for calibration that permits adjustment of the zero
output and span output.

7.3

Flow Transmitters shall be three- (3) point bench calibrated using a hydraulic or dead
weight tester or precision pneumatic calibrator prior to installation as well as after
installation at site. A precision output meter, gauge or manometer shall be used to
monitor the output.

8.0

DOCUMENTATION:

8.1

The documentation requirements shall in general be according to clause 3.6.6.2 of


Instrumentation Design Criteria.

8.2

Duly filled in data sheet shall be furnished along with the purchase specification. A
typical data sheet is provided as Annexure III of this document.

8.3

Intrinsic safety certificate for the flow transmitter shall be provided with the Purchase
specification.

9.0

TAGGING & NAMEPLATES:

9.1

Tagging & Nameplate requirements shall in general be according to clause 3.6.6.1 of


Instrumentation Design Criteria.

9.2

The nameplates shall include the following data as a minimum:

REVIEW & APPROVAL:

Review and approval of purchase specifications and other related documents shall in
general be according to clause 3.6.6.3 of Instrumentation Design Criteria.

VENDOR PRE-QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The Vendor pre-qualification requirements shall in general be according to clause


3.6.6.4 of Instrumentation Design Criteria.

12.0

PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT:

12.1

The Flow Transmitters shall be prepared for shipment in accordance to clause 3.6.6.5 of
Instrumentation Design Criteria.

13.0

RECEIPT & STORAGE:

13.1

Receipt and storage of the Flow Transmitters shall be in accordance to clause 3.6.6.6 of
Instrumentation Design Criteria.
