Introduction:
This course is belong to the laboratory of mechanics of materials and in this laboratory time we are
going to test a plate and method of finding the poison ratio of the plate also we are going to find the
modulus of rigidity by our experience that saw in laboratory.

Background (Theory):
We will use from some theories and formulas that learned from the book for finding the poison ratio
and modulus of rigidity.

Materials Used in the Experiment:

Material that we used in this experiment was:
1: A piece of plate with 100mm height, 39mm width and 2mm thickness.
2: A Ruler for measurement.
3: A venire Caliper for measurement.
4: The Universal Tensile Testing Machine for the main part.

Test Setup and Procedures:

First of all we used from ruler for measuring the length, width, and thickness of our plate then set it
up in testing machine such that we mark the length of our plate and put one point of that in the
upper arm of machine and the other point in lower arm of machine and set the test that we want to
do in the computer of machine and then we push the start button of machine to start exerting the
force on our plate, and we are going to see the procedure of force acting on the plate and wait until
the steal cut and became into two parts, it is important to say that when the machine exerted the
maximum force on the plate at the yell point we used from Varnier Caliper to measure the width of
plate at the yell point for the change in length of Ly.
Results and Discussion:
We have done all this operation and now we know from our operation that our plate can bear up to
2450KGF until it reaches to the yell point we used this force to find the stress that applied to

our plate. And as we saw there was about 1.8mm change in the length of plate about
0.15mm change in the width of plate, we can use this information for finding the poison ratio
of the plate and by using the stress on the plate, modulus of elasticity and the poison ratio to
find

the

elasticity.

Conclusion:

the

In over all my all progress I understand more important things in testing materials as well in testing
plate, such that determining the poison ratio, modulus of rigidity, modulus of elasticity, stress on the
plate.
In this laboratory I learned that every where that is large stress the possibility of breaking is the most
also I knew that our plate broke due to maximum shear force and some thing about the actual and
average stress. In our investigation we also understand some thing about modulus of elasticity that it
is because of the stress that we are exerting and the deformation of length in steel.
