INTRODUCTION:
The Internet of Things, or IoT, has been discussed as the next disruptive technological
revolution. Connecting things with other things and allowing them to gather information
through physical sensors and share information through the internet will change how the
world works, but will it change how we live? Technology has always been a hobby of mine
and the IoT has really captured my interest. My research question is simply: What three
ways will the IoT change our lives?

By Buying Into The Internet Of Things." Texas Law Review 94.5 (2016): 1023-1054.

Melissa Bailey is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law. The Note was
reviewed by her Professor as well as the editorial board of the Texas Law Review
before publication.
This feels like one of the best sources I have found and it helped to define one of the
viewpoints of my paper. Her sources and her use of them lend her great ethos as a
writer and expert on the issue.
Burrus, Daniel. IoT: At Home and On The Job. Burrus Blog, November 2, 2016.
http://www.burrus.com/2016/11/iot-home-job/ Accessed 12 November 2016.
Daniel Burrus is a world renowned futurist on global trends and technological
innovation. Since the early 80s he has been predicting trends of technological
advancement and effects on business.
Daniel in this blog uses several statistics from the IDC survey that support his
claims of the IoT moving forward quickly. He combines these stats with other expert
opinions and stats to make his case about IoT affecting business strategy, processes,
and policy.
I feel like this information may be useful to highlight how businesses changing
how they run because of the IoT may affect family life but not a good source for how
the IoT directly affects change in family life.

Lorne Daniel is a market analyst for FinnCapp a financial investment company in the

I feel like this isnt the strongest source on the IoT, but it fills a niche in terms of
connected cars on the IoT.
Gartner, Inc. The thing is not really the thing. Interactive Infographic,

Worlds leading IT research and advisory company. In 2015 their annual revenue
totalled over 2 billion dollars and provide services for over 10,000 business
enterprises world wide.
Although they have a great reason to be a credible source they dont seem to be
easily accessed much like IDC and have mostly only info for businesses and IT
professionals. It will take some time to make sense and find useful info.

International Data Corporation, or IDC. IDC's 2016 Global IoT Decision Maker

consumer technology, information technology and telecommunications markets.
Their research assists businesses, executives, and IT professionals use facts to make
decisions about business strategy.
In this release they provide several statistics according to their preliminary
findings that detail the advance of the IoT.
This source of my source does not provide any more information or relative views. As
it is only a press release for preliminary findings to a survey conducted I have
requested the full results of the survey to perhaps find more relevant data.

Links, Cees. The Internet of Things Will Change Our World, ERCIM News 101,
2015, 3. Web. http://ercim-news.ercim.eu/en101/keynote/1605-the-internet-ofthings-will-change-our-world accessed 3 December 2016
Cees Links is the Founder and CEO of GreenPeak Technologies and the ERCIM is the
European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics and ERCIM News is
the magazine published by this organization. The article eloquently describes how
the IoT is very different from having internet connected devices and IoT devices.
As a source this is a very good starting point and especially so because it is a
viewpoint from across the world. It is also a conglomerate of voices not just one. I
am finding that there are several points of consensus when it comes to the internet
of things. I will probably look for other sources from the ERCIM as well.

MCFARLANE, EDWYN. "Mobile Marketing Is A Myth." Marketing Week (2016): 28.

MasterFILE Complete. Web. 12 Dec. 2016.

Edwyn is the Business Innovation Director at Affiliate Window. Marketing Week is a

leading UK magazine for marketing jobs, news, information and opinion.
As a source it once again fills a niche I was needing on connected cars. Because of
how new the topic is I was very limited in choice of sources.
Swan, Melanie. Sensor Mania! The Internet of Things, Wearable Computing,
Objective Metrics, and the Quantified Self 2.0. Journal of Sensor and Actuator
Networks 1.3 (2012): 217253. CrossRef. Web.

Melanie Swan is a paid researcher and the Journal of Sensor Actuator Networks is an
international open access journal on the science of actuators and control systems.
The article does a great job of introducing the IoT to the technologically challenged
individual as well as give a comprehensive review of the expanding IoT.
This is a great resource for not only my Viewpoint Synthesis but also my own
curiosity. The point of view this source takes is that IoT will most change our lives
through wearable tech.

OVERALL CONCLUSION
This topic is very new and there has not been a lot of action taken as of yet in politics or
policies and because of that I feel like my purpose in stating this issue is relevant even
though it was more difficult to find sources than I had first expected. I almost feel like the
reason there are so few is because peoples imaginations just run away from them when
they consider all the possibilities the IoT has to offer. Overall I was able to find enough
information to highlight three viewpoints.
