Re: Memo regarding analysis on how to win 2020 presidential election

Candidate Smith I'm aware that you intend to campaign in the 2020 presidential election.
Therefore I created data analysis based on 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton
and Donald Trump. I will discuss the history of voter demographics, media campaigns, and
statistics from swing states Florida and Colorado. First I will explain how
income, education, race, gender and age effect presidential campaigns. Income plays a key role in
who votes and who they vote for. Generally people who are above the poverty line or are wealthy
tend to vote more and are more involved in political matters. This could be contributed to the fact
that people with higher incomes have more education that people with lower incomes.Voters
with more money contribute more time, money and effort in mid election campaigns and
presidential campaigns.
Ethnicity,Race and Minorities
More factors like race, ethnicity and gender are other factors that depict voter turn out. For
centuries many voters were male Whites. Until the 1900s when women and African Americans
were given the right to vote. With inclusionary voting rights minorities are participating more in
presidential elections. In 2012 African Americans voter turn out seemed to be significant.
Greenberg author of the Struggle for Democracy states For the first time ever, among those who
were registered to vote, turnout was higher among African Americans than whites, with 66.2
percent of voting-eligible African Americans voting compared with 64.1 percent of votingeligible whites. Although voter turnout increased amongst African Americans Hispanic and
Asian American votes were very low in the 2012 campaigns. However Minority voter
participation is predicted to continue to increase and this demographic shift will effect votes all
over but primary in swing states.
2016 Media Campaigns
Now I will discuss how media campaigns were effective in the 2016 presidential election.
Media plays a key role in filtering information and ideas to the public. Both Clinton and Trump
dedicated a lot of time and effort toward media time and circulation. Trump dominated Media
because he was very controversial and good for tv ratings. His flagrant statements and bold
behavior granted him more air time and press coverage. He utilized all social media platforms
such as television, Twitter and Instagram to promote his campaign. In his ad Two Americas
Economy his video was very short and concise. The featured imagery of how Clinton could
effect jobs and the economy in a negative way. It also portrayed immigrants as criminals who
threaten Americas protection and strength. In comparison to Trumps media campaign Hilary
Clintons media campaigns were very long and costly. It was projected that she out spent trump
by millions on media campaigns. Her ads incorporated a lot of imagery narration and music. In

her ad campaigns The story of Her and The Story of the US she incorporated family photos and
stories and showcased a lot of diversity and until amongst her and her supporters. She included
emotional appeals and tried to be relatable and encourage change. I think that both candidates
effectively portrayed how important change in America was. Donald Trump was effective in his
media campaigns because he was controversial and relevant. Whereas Hilary Clinton created
effective media campaigns because she campaigned to all minorities and women.
Swing States Colorado and Florida
Lastly I will explain how battle ground states like Colorado and Florida are extremely
important to your presidential campaign.Florida contributed 29 electoral votes in the presidential
campaign. Data from the US census states that in 2015 Florida had a population of 20,271,272
Ethnicity data shows percentages on each race and it indicates that 75% of the population is
White, 16.0% African American, 2.4% Asian American, 22.5% of the population is Hispanic or
Latino descendent. Also different factors like income demographics and education play a factor
in political campaigns and electoral votes.According to the US census the average median
income in Florida is 47,212 and 15.7% fall below the poverty line. Floridas statistics on
education state that out of the population of persons 25 years or older that 86.6% have a high
school diploma or higher. Voters average median age is 40 years old and voters between the ages
of 20-39 make up 25% of the population. The largest margin for voters between the ages 20-39 is
the group of 20-24 year olds that make up 6.5% out of the 25% calculation.Whereas voters
between the ages 40-85 or older account for 51% of the population. The largest contribution
coming from the population that is 45-49 years old they make up 7.5% out of the 51%.
Colorado is a smaller state and consist of a population of 5,456,574. Majority of of
Colorados population consist of Whites. In the data from the U.S census 81.3 %t of the
population is white, 4% African American, 1.1% Asian, and 20.7% Hispanic or Latino decent.
Voters ages between 20-39 make up 28.2% and voters between the ages 25-29 make up 7.4% of
the 28.2 percent. However potential voters that are 40-85 years or older make up 44.5% of the
population. The largest margin coming from people who are between 45-54 who both account
for 7.4% each. With all of the population accounted for 11.5% fall below the poverty line.
Educational data analysis from the US census indicate that 90% of persons 25 years or older
obtained a high school degree. Also 37% of this population acquired a bachelors degree.
Summary
Ultimately in order to have an effective campaign you will need to include all the factors
and information into your campaign. You will need to factor in income, education, age, race and
gender.I suggest that you create a campaign that relates to a multitude of people and encourages
change. However really capture the attention and the youth and minorities because they depict
how many electoral votes you can receive in swing states like Florida and Colorado. Also utilize
media like Trump did and create and urning for people to listen and be intrigued. Create a
campaign that is memorable and based on statistical analysis that way you can be most effective
in swing states and all across the US
